I'm relatively new to RTC and something curious. It seems to me that monster movement is partially dependant on its tile position. If several monsters are put on the same tile, they degroup anyway and move around alone, on one tile position. To advance a complete tile, the monsters seems to need to take two steps. A central positioned monster, however, only needs one step. If you now have the chance of retreating while fighting a monster, you can sort of "cheat" with this. You can attack a monster while it is still on a rear tile position and take a step back once it reaches the front tile position. Repeat this and you will never get hit.
I am not sure if this is compensated by a higher speed when a monster is not on a central position (monsters under doors seem to be able to hop the two required steps very quickly); if not, I think that monsters should either
a) only need one step for a tile, regardless of position or
b) move at double speed when not on a central position.
