I have an interesting question regarding any conjuring monster spells that some people might create for their custom dungeons:
If I create a spell that allows the party to summon a monster (say a dragon, or a screamer), then when the party kills the monster they just created, will it drop food like it normally does? If so, the party now has a way of producing food from mana for a relatively low cost in situations where food could be scarce in the dungeon. I don't think this should be allowed since I view finding food part of the regular frantic daily life down in the dungeons that adds to the overall challenge of completing the quest and staying alive.
Here's my suggestion: If conjure/summon monster spells are allowed, these monsters should drop nothing when they are killed.
What do you think?

Umm, i think it's up to the designer to decide this and also completely under his control alone anyway - and the designer can create non-food droppign versions of monsters if they desire quite easily.
If a designer provides this option in their dungeon and you don't hold with it, then self regulate and don't eat conjured monster food!

Sorry if I stated something that had an obvious solution. You have to remember that I currently have no way to play the latest version of RTC so I have no idea what the new editor does and does not allow. I basing all of my posts on what I knew of the editor from like ten versions ago. I forgot that it was possible to specify how much food gets dropped.

That's exactly the way to do it - create a new monster thats identical to an existing one apart from the fact that it doesn't drop food and then have your conjure spell create the new monster rather than the existing one.Beowuuf wrote:the designer can create non-food droppign versions of monsters
I agree - that said, if anyone finds any imbalances that can't be resolved through the creation of new objects, then let me know and I'll adjust the engine accordingly.Beowuuf wrote:In general I am very wary of having the engine dictating anything that really is a designer question
