I've just downloaded CSBWin version 9.8 and every time I try to play it, the game freezes up just as the doors to the Dungeon start to open.
I've tried it with the original "PlayDM-Atari.bat", "PlayCSB-Atari.bat" and also with Conflux II release J. Every time it crashes just as the doors start to open.
Can anyone offer any advice, am I doing something wrong...?
Crash on start.

Just for the heck of it......go get that .zip file,
Unzip it into a single directory. Start CSBwin.exe
and see if it works any better. This is a simpler
case with only the single directory.
Your problem is that it hangs before the doors
open? As they open? I don't remember anyone
reporting such a problem. No message whatsoever?

Umm, I forget if there could be a zip issue depending on what you use. Make sure that all the seperate dungeon files have been written to their sub-folders, not all dumped in one folder. CSBwin can use multiple folders for playing multiple dungeons, so the .bat files that set up this function could cause the crash
CSBwin only needs a few files in the root to play - so if Paul S's suggestion works, then you know the problem with your original download!

I've had this error a couple of times, and restarting the machine cleared it. I can't reproduce it though - no idea what made it happen. Perhaps it only happens if you've previously played RTC
I never had it on my old PC, and my new one is running XP Media Center 2005 rather than Home. I also had to upgrade the drivers on my graphics card as I was getting a few glitches (on Oblivion - waaah!). Dunno if either of these are relevant.

I had that too, when I reinstalled system from XP to 98. So I had to re-reinstall it from 98 to XP again, and now everything works fine

I have reproduced a problem exactly as described
by artificially assuming that the Windows Sound
function fails. I will fix this so that the program
proceeds without sound in this circumstance.
The first sound is when the doors open. The doors
advance a couple of steps and then the program freezes.
I am using the very most simple Windows sound interface.
Perhaps some other program has taken complete
control of the sound system?????
