The Vi Altar. There should be a scroll saying "New Lives for old bones" or something similar.

Just pretend you're playing the game for the first time. :)

How to use a scroll - pick one up, open inventory, and click-and-hold it on the eye symbol.
Altars of Rebirth (Vi Altars) look like normal altars only they have these yellow-and-green things inside them, one on each side, and of course they're the only altars that bring bones back to life ;).
Failing that, just reload a save whenever someone dies ;).

There should be a Vi Altar right in front of you before you go down the stairs on the very first level.

You can also put a scroll into your character's action hand to keep it open on the inventory screen.

1) The fountains are for drinking of course. Each of your characters has a water bar in his inventory. You can use water skins and empty flasks to bottle water, you can later click them on a characters mouth icon in the inventory to refill that water bar. If the water bar drops to low you will rapidly lose stamina, and if you lose to much stamina wou will eventually lose health, which will end in a characters death at some point. Depending on what version of Dungeon Master you are using you can also directly let your party leader (the one whose name is highlighted by left-clicking once on his name) drink from a fountain by clicking an empty hand mouse icon on the fountain.

2) Since you seem to have very basic questions about the game, I recommend that you use the quick links pull-down menu on top of this site to go to the Dungeon Master Encyclopaedia. You can read the original manual and the official hint book there, and you will find there descriptions of all spells, monsters, items and all levels including detailed maps, plus a simple walkthrough (the latter is a bit inaccurate though, but the very precise maps more than make up for that).

reply to fountain guestion

Post by Duckman »

You can also refill your waterskins in fountain, as waterskins can be drinked tree times without visit at fountain. take the waterskin over thirsty adventurers mouth, and press. So basic guestions like those can get answer for basic manual found at DM&CSB encyclopedia. But please, do not swear.
I don't post anymore for reasons real-life.

Anyone else find it strange that while the full waterskin weighs 0.9 you can barely get one thirsty character's water bar full with it. Yet a flask full of water weighs only 0.3, but it will replenish anyone completely.. This at least in the Amiga version..

I never thought about that mikko, but it is (well, almost) true. A flask of water won't replenish the water bar completely, and I'd even say it replenishes it less than a full waterskin, but the difference is small. Anyway, you are correct - an empty waterskin weighs 0.3 kg, a full one weighs 0.9 kg, so the water in it would weigh 0.6 kg. A full flask of water should weigh about 0.7 kg then instead of 0.3, since an empty one weighs only 0.1 kg. Interesting little inconsistency there.

Trantor: The 0.6 water represent 3 portions of water, while a flask only represents 1 portion, so the weight of a flask is correct, a portion of water always has a weight of 0.2, but a portion of water is more efficient in a flask than in a skin - probably a psychological side effect; water just looks more thirst-quenching when bottled in a clear flask than in an opaque skin - your characters can feel that obviously.

And I think it is simply harder not to spill the most of the liquid
when drinking out of a waterskin (bladder),compared to flasks.

furthermore for best drinking results, you need two empty hands.
ONe for holding the waterskin above in front of you and the other
to hold to your mouth.. and most of the time the champions have
something holding in one or even the other, so imagine the mess.
;)
THey spill most of the water with waterflasks, and are experts
at drinking out of Flasks(all that Vi potions give some practice)

How much do Ven- or Ful Bombs weigh? 0.2 kg as well?

No, they both weigh 0.3 kg, just like a full flask of water.

Yes, of course my memory didn't serve me right so I checked it. A flask of water gives you 50% of the bar. So if you have it somewhere around 25%, it goes up to 75% etc.. With the waterskin each gulp gives maybe 25%, so obviously the chars are spilling half of it! They should get some training in drinking from an old bladder.. Maybe a secret skill of some kind.. :P

That must be the first hidden priest skill.

However, you are not able to "train" this skill.
You get no experience for the action 'flip coin'!!
