My friend showed me these the other night.

I know it's Japanese, but still, you gotta wonder how much spare time someone must have to build stuff like this.
They're pretty cool though ;).

We seemed to have suddenly lost about three pages of this thread! Have we just had another member deleted or something?

I wondered that when I came into this thread to post those links, but then I thought maybe I was getting confuzzled with the Inn-chat thread. It's not just me then - this thread was about 23 pages long?

ahh the 80's... YOU GOT THE TOUCH... *BEWWWWWWAAAAAWAWAWAWAWAAAAAAA* (guitar)

Why is it that it's so in apropriate music that they put to be the theme music for a big final fight? :P

I was wondering what animated series you guys did watch in the eigthies. In France, we had loads of japanimation and a few american stuff, such as Transformers or GI-Joe :)

Same as you really, the transformers/thundercats/he-man etc, plus in BRitain a few weird children's ones like - JAmie and the Magic Torch

I would also mention Robot Story, but peopel give me a look like I am made talking about 'white wriggler' etc :(

I never was into Transformers - never saw the series, never had the toys. I was a huge He Man-fan back then, I still have lots of action figures in the attic! My favourite was probably Saber Rider, though - the German version was dubbed fantastically. Also, don't forget the wonderful Captain Future! As far as I know, he still has a cult following both in Germany and in France (known there as Capitaine Flame); I don't know if he is well-known in the UK as well.

I was always a She-Ra fanboy. I also have the Dungeons & Dragons box set.

Trantor: Yep, but don't forget that the marvelloius, wonderful soundtrack and intro and outro of Captain Future ONLY exists in the German version, the sound of the japanese and french version is utterly ridiculous and the japanese/french outro is stupid beyond description.

She-Ra rocked as well! I think the animated series was actually better than He-Man, it looked better, the scripts were usually better, and Hordak was a far cooler und funnier villain than Skeletor was.

Anyway, back to Captain Future: The series was made with only one audio track, so the dialogue, music and sound effects were all unseperable. Thus, the music was completely different in every country. The brilliant soundtrack in the German version is probably the main reason why so many people still love the series here, and I suppose this is partly true for the French version as well. A few years ago, the only way to obtain the series here in Germany was buying the French version, as it was the only one available! Fortunately, the whole series has been released in two DVD box sets, and thanks to youtube, I am now seriously considering buying them (I already own the German soundtrack on CD).

Here is the original Japanese opening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9m3JxdvqUc

The French version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4-89PqmsOU

And the German one, which sadly is shorter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_eatTYL0EQ

The guy who wrote the music for the German version is actually a customer in the book store that my brother owns together with his wife!

So, to all the Frenchies here, do you remember Capitaine Flam? And is or was this series popular anywhere else?

EDIT: Ah, you know what you are talking about Lunever! :D

EDIT2: Oh my god, I just found the English opening! Talk about an atrocity of a theme song...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WP3xTInivEw

But to be honest, the Italian version may just be even worse:

Yes ! Capitaine Flam is "incontournable" in France because of its f unbelievable disco opening. I have all dvd boxset like many 30 years old people, and the japanese bgm musics (i really love cheesy-jazzy disco ;))
I've also known about the German music since many years : this intrumental song is truely fantastic and one of the best opening in animation series ever.
