The Rabbit's Foot

Post by Sophia »

In another thread Lunever wrote:In DM1/CSB/RTCDM I don't care anymore since the rabbit's foot has been forced to the left-hand anyway
Huh?
I thought forcing the rabbit's foot to the left hand was just RTC.
It was my understanding that it worked anywhere in the inventory in FTL's original engine. This is also what I've done in DSB.

What is correct?

I don't know what behaviour the original engine uses, but concerning DSB, I'd say that it should work the way it does now. If it doesn't work like that in the original, I think we can be sure it's a bug, and it is one of those things that should work as intended in a clone, not the way it was done in the bugged original. But that's just my opinion.

Gah, since that other thread is in the RTC SUGGESTIONS forum, I didn't think I was to mention that I meant RTC_Original-Dungeon-Master-1, RTC_Chaos-Strikes-Back and RTC_Dungeon-Master-RTC-Version. If I mean FTL-Dungeon-Master-1 I SAY FTL-Dungeon-Master-1.

I wouldn't put a rabbit's foot anywhere in MY inventory.

Calm down Lunever. :)
You mentioned "RTCDM" as a separate thing so I didn't know.

just as a side note imo the rabbit foot should work point blank everywhere in inventory!!
why not attach it to the belt especially with 2 weapon fighting it does not sound like a good idea to hold it in hand!

Lol, I wouldn't place a rabbit's foot in MY inventory either, but then I wouldn't place pieces of worms, rats, or dead bats there either. And if I was a Lizardman like Hissssa, or a Wookie like Darouu (not to speak of a cute little doggy like Wuuf), I wouldn't wear a bra, no matter whether it offers more protection than no clothing/armour. Oh, and I wouldn't place a row of chests in my bagpack and drink lots of steroid potions in order to be able to carry them.

Sophia, yes, since RTC has an RTC-DM1 dungeon and an original-DM1 dungeon, but of course there IS a "original DM1" dungeon beyond RTC sometimes chaos arises from it :-)

I think it should work anywhere in the equipment panel, whether it's hands or pouch (since those are the only places it will fit). Why not attach a string and wear it around the neck? Custom dungeon idea. . . .

Just for clarification...

I just tested it, and in the FTL original DM (AtariST and PC versions, at least, didn't test any others), the rabbit's foot adds to a character's Luck (all three scores - minimum, current, and maximum, if that's important) no matter where it is in inventory.

**Edit**

The exception is that if the rabbit's foot is in a chest in a character's backpack, it doesn't do anything.

I always put the rabbit's foot in the pouch of Daroou, and I felt lucky !

I think as long as it is equiped (anywhere except the backpack), it should provide the bonus.
I wouldn't say the same of a ring or weapon : it's only fair that you have to wear it or wield it to get the boni
But a luck token is like "an aura", you were it where you fancy, and that's what gives you luck !
