DMII Graphics Conversion work in progress

Post by Crash. »

Greetings,

I've decided to experiment with updating the monster graphics. Comments?

I don't like the cartooniness and solid colours, they do not blend well with the more detailed background

I forget, have to tried playing with the SNES graphics? I seem to recall them being slightly more complex compared to the basic DM graphics

The other alternative would be to stick a gradiated filter of black over the pictures, so they are darkened and have an aura, as if the party's light spilling over them - that might work, and blend the edges over into the dungeon background

You might want to even soften the shadows the monsters have too, or because it is RTC even make them a touch transparent ust so the shadow interacts with the background so it seems part of the dungeon

Let me try to clarify. I was just working on the dungeon graphics, as re-creating all of the monsters is quite beyond me, and I'm not able to add more detail. I have however run the monster graphics through a filter program called hq4x that is suited smoothing out low color/low resolution graphics.

Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to release the DMII graphics upgrade with the filtered monsters.

I'm not sure that I know how to process the images otherwise (as you describe). I'm not an artist.

So, Original (left) or Filtered (right)? :)

I'm not much of an artist either, and can't get the effect to work at all in paintshop

I say left!
