@ Trantor: I know with my being new here and all it may seem strange, but for some reason your name is familiar... perhaps from another forum, maybe? :? :)

Hm, unlikely. Unless it is a forum about Magic: The Gathering and I have only a few posts that lie back quite some time, it's probably somebody else. After all, Trantor is the name of a planet in Isaac Asimov's novels (not to mention a character from a German comic in a gaming magazine from the late 80s), so it's not terribly unlikely someone else uses it.

Hmm, that's a possibility... Most of the other forums I'm on are concerned with freeware gaming except for a couple of Sims 2 forums, but I almost never post there though...

Well, and of course the good old Schneider CPC game "Trantor", which is the origin of the character Trantor in the cartoon "Starkiller" from the German PowerPlay magazine.

Well I have been reading these forums for ages so I though perhaps I should introdune myself.

My real name is Brian and I'm from England.

At 53 am I the oldest person here.?

I played Dungeon Master on the Atari, after playing Wizardry (another great game) on the Apple II.

I have made a few attempts at re writting DM myself, although just for educational purposes, as my results are not as complete as CSBwin or RTC.

I did write a graphic extractor for DM (DMDecode) as part of the aborted DMClone project. Not the best extractor but I think it was the first available. I wrote it by examining the origional source code using ida384 dissasembler.

Hi Brian!

I believe Paul S is older, we have a huge age range here!

I seem to recall the DMDecode name so the tool is probably still o nthe encyclopaedia!

Hail there Uther Brian! Welcome to our little humble abode.

Paul Stevens is indeed our oldest and wisest member (as far as I know). And I remember DMdecode too -- wow, that's going back a bit. Was it this clone you were working on:

Hi everybody,
my name is Alessio, I'm from Italy and I'm 32.
I've played DM and CSB on the Amiga 500.
I think DM (and of course CSB) is one of the best game ever made.

I'm developing a roguelike game called Hokuto no Rogue set in the Hokuto no Ken (aka Fist of the North Star) world. When you drink water in my game you can hear the classic DM *gulp* sound. I made this as a tribute. :D

Hello everybody, newbie and regular alike!

Been on here for a little time and I remember having promised to add some personal informations... so here it goes:

(Compared to the other Germans on here my English is not very good and quite often I find myself wanting to post an answer and the words just don't flow as they normally would typing in German. Anyway, except for the extra time and the chance to be misunderstood, I'm fine with that.)

I'm 34 years old and live in the SW of Germany. An area that is famous for its cars and in fact I work just a few 100 meters away from that place the first car on earth was built. I'm freelancing and been -very- lucky with that so far.

I'm very much into horses and classic american cars. If it wasn't 120 km each day, I would ride instead of driving my chevy. I also live a vegan lifestyle as far as this is possible ("go vegan - drive a chevy", ah yes, it's a little divergent. ;-)).

My horses are very special to me. "My horses" in social terms, but I do not feel like 'owning' them. Sometimes it's more like they do own me. But in real its neither nor. Words are not suited to describe it. People may take riding lessons for years in a commercial stable and won't notice that special magic.

To give you a brief image: when my "Little" (a cute name for 1200 pounds of horse, but thats his name. :-)) is tired and eager to do some mutual grooming at the end of the day, he rests his head on my shoulder and with just scratching a thiny spot on one of his ears he actually falls asleep, resting most if his weight on me. After some brief time he relaxes totally, starts snoring (like horses do when asleep) and it may even happen he goes into REM mode, random muscular movement, tail twitching, nibbling, eyes rolling. Believe it or not: he once even had a 'bad dream'. Now put into this about 150 million years of evolution hardwiring a "predator on my back --> RUN!", then watch a Archmaster dressage lesson. (Not that dressage is really something beyond any critics, it just shows that communication between different species can be done on a level that is almost telepathic)
Ah, well. As said: nothing words can really describe.

So caring for my horses and maintaining my cars eat up most of my spare time, still there will always be a little time left to realize some dreams from childhood, which are in conjuration with DM: to built my own custom dungeon. Will be finished when I'm around 40. :-)

I'm happy to have found this forum (and beside the various custom dungeons/editors/clones of course this jewel called Conflux) and guess I will be on here for a some time. Just don't scratch my ear, or I may start snoring. :-)

Cya!

That's really very sweet.

I used to have 5 cats a few years back and they were really great friends. I'm also chasing the dream of designing my own custom dungeon. ATM I'm making custom portraits for an original set of characters, once that's done I'll be onto the work of making my dungeon.

Meanwhile I have to work around me job, working in sales for the coolest employer around, every Friday after work, we actually play rock band!

Oh, the company's a creative design firm, so that may explain things a bit. :P

Perhaps I'll even post a bit more about myself here sometime.

Yes it's me, the Forrest Gump of the forum. I usually get to download a custom dungeon but get stuck on the "when is a wall not a wall" bit. Either that or I get too intimidated when the screamers start ganging up on me.

This foto was taken after visiting a Spanish bodega (vinyard), was it the alcohol fumes from the oak barrels or am I seeing a screamer here?
Image

OK, finding a non-terrible photograph has been traumatic, even the web cam didn't like me. I trawled back through the archives to 2005 to find one that didn't make me feel physically sick:

Image

I'm a web developer where English (Bill Gates dialect) is useful for those WTF moments in my job, here in Spain. I'm supposed to be a trained Chemical Engineer or Chemist but I just gravitated towards 'puters.

Life here in Zaragoza, Spain is pretty sweet, what with the wife being Spanish and translating all of the beaurocracy for me. I can't even spell 'beaurocracy' in Spanish to be honest. Here I enjoy the cheaper wine and beer, sitting out in the cooling afternoons, eating great food (hey, I'm a vegetarian too)...

Interests... Hmm. I manage to get to the gym once a week offloading the children onto the wife. I read the occasional scifi book. I am a member of just one other forum, around a FPS game, and am currently addicted to Dwarf Fortress => an ASCII game.

I undertook a huge DMJava dungeon but not finished it. I'll test play it and publish it one day, because it's still playable. I like the way DMJava is open source, and it's amazing for someone's first Java program! Currently I'm hooked on the DSB engine. A very different fish, as the english expression goes, but tastier.

I have spawned 2 children, Inés and Fabian. I sometimes wonder what their favourite DM creatures would be when they get bigger...

Screamer - Yes, she's loud
Image

Note that she then broke the glass on the floor 2 minutes after taking the photo. Being 3.5 years old she's a real sweety. I can't wait until she's 13... :-X

Next up we have the new-born @ 4 months. I can highly recommend having two as the second one seems to be easier - the parents are more chilled with stuff ;)

Swamp Slime - It's all mucus at the moment

Enough of me now, lets talk about YOU.

Hi there!
I found this forum while looking for info on DM.
DM on the A500 was my first ever CRPG, well the first CRPG where I knew what I was doing at least :)
Still took me 3 tries to finish it as I had developed the characters in the wrong pattern the first two times. I was 10 years old at the time after all...
But that gave me a solid foundation, and found most other RPGs easy after that!

Nowthen everyone :o

Had I noticed this thread sooner I would have made my first post here rarther than posting random spam questions, though I am very greatful for all your replies :D .

My name is Damien  and i'm from north east England. I first encountered DM in the early 90's when my stepfather introduced me to an A500. Thanks to him my childhood memmories are filled with the joy of such games as, Monkey Island, the Settlers, Civillization, SimAnt, Moonstone, etc (I could go on all day!) Cheers Chris! :D

Of all these classic games Dungeon Master always stood out the most and for many years I have had to go without being able to play DM for various reasons and this absence, I think, made me grow very fond of the game. Therefore I have now started to collect the ancient relics I once owned in order to pick up where I left off... halfwayish through the game worrying about food and making maps :?

Anyway, in closing (as I am quite tired now) this site is cool! everyone seems really friendly and I hope to keep posting for years to come :D

By the way, I don't usually find time to come online till late so you will have to watchout for me. I am the Phantom Spam Poster. Latez

Well, welcome from me if I didn't say it already (and I probably didn't 'cause I probably couldn't be arsed 'cause I'm a bit of a lazy arse ;)). Have fun on DM - once you finish that, let's see how you do with CSB .

Its good to know that Gambit, I won't really post any spam

Don't worry about being a 'lazy arse' Ameena, its a common human trait.

Anyway, untill I complete DM most of my posts will about any difficulties I'm having which I will continue to post in the specific Dungeon Master thread. :)

I somehow don't think I'm the only one who gets some kind of weird kick out of seeing new people posting up problems they're having with the "evil" puzzles or the "scary" monsters (okay, Scorpions and one or two other individuals are kinda scary still...), or how they're stuck at some certain point...it's cool to see people are still playing DM for the first time :).

Nice zoom, congratulations! I've just been to Trier a few weeks ago, lovely little city, although it's probably hell to drive a car there.
Also, Luxembourg isn't far, and you can get some stuff rather cheap there (fuel especially).

I am really glad..[/sentimental ;) ]
