Hi. I've been dropping in and out of this site (and other DM reference sites) for years now, keeping up on any news and clones etc. Thought I would finally register and say hi.
I frist played DM on the A500 in 1992 and it just blew me away. I can just about remember my first ever attempt where I had to run from the mummy on the first level coz he was kicking my arse! Later on I completed with my fave team of Halk, Daroou, Mophus and Gothmog. Like a few other people here I still wandered the Dungeons for a bit after completing the game. My mates and I created challenges such as the "complete DM with just ONE hero challenge". I started CSB a few times but tbh it lacked something for me and I never got very far into it. Skullkeep I barely attempted. Then I forgot all about DM for about 10 years until I stumbled on a dos version in 2004. I also am heavily into Amiga emulation so I play emulated versions occaisionally. My next challenge is to go to my parents loft and try to dig out my original DM saved game with my (much missed) team and use them to go through CSB.
For years I thought my involvement with, in my eyes, the greatest game ever made was over for good. I never predicted that the net would get so massive and create an environment in which lovers of FTLs classic could get nostalgic about their favourite game.
I hope to be a regular contributer round here now that I've settled in jobs/moving!

Welcome to the boards Andrew! It's always good to see another soul whose love for FTL's masterpiece never ceased to exist.
You should definitely give CSB a go, once you have found your way into the game, it is actually better than DM because there is so much to do and to explore. It's much more dense than DM, with barely any empty spaces. I actually don't like Skullkeep much; if you are still hungry for more, there are great custom dungeons out there that are on par with the DM and CSB, most notably Towers of Chaos, Surgical Strike and Conflux III.

Thanks Trantor. Can I ask...if I can't find my old saved party and have to start in CSB anew, is it near impossible or is it ok? The champions there (if I remember rightly) are obviously lower in ability than those with which you finish DM.
P.S. I also am a Foundation series fan. In fact I'm currently reading Prelude to Foundation which Asimov wrote some 30 years after the original trilogy.

Welcome to the forum, anyway, and hope you stick around to have fun and all that...it's nice that other people who like DM still keep popping up every now and then to join our ranks

Sorry, belated welcome to the forum - solid telephone calls last night!
Funnily, Trantor is not a reference to the foundation series! t's a comics character
Personally, I've read the second fountaintion series onwards, and I think prelude to foundation if that is the one where the mathematician is walking around the core planet forming his theory of foundation

Re: So, tell us about yourself...
Hello again everyone, many of you may not remember me buy I had an account here in the past. It was made mid-2006 but since I cannot recall the old username and it let me use my old email to make this one, here I am!
Alright, so I'm 18 years old. I'll be 19 in September. My hobbies and interests include gaming, music, level design, limited programming because I'm a noob, and anime. Occasionally a movie will pop up that I'll want to go see but I don't watch much TV these days. As for level design, I'd love to say I'm great at it but I'm not. I think I'm okay. I can come up with clever puzzles and situations but nothing amazing. I've had nothing but good experiences with the RTC editor in the past, however.
My first exposure to Dungeon Master was when I was around 7 years old, on the SNES. I then played my dad's copy of DM2 on the PC, but still to this day I have never beaten a Dungeon Master game. I love them to death, though. I just get distracted and restart or play something else, though right now I'm determined to finish the first game.
I'm glad to see alot of familiar names still hovering about, and it's nice to see that Ameena is still here:P She may not remember but she drew up my bandages for my dungeon a couple years back
I'm bad at writing these, this wasn't too long, a picture may come in the future but not right now because I have no good ones of the current, short-haired me.
Back to the dungeon I go!

Ooh yeah, I do remember drawing those bandages - I drew a dirty one and a clean one, didn't I? It's a shame I can't remember who the hell it was for - then you'd know what your old username was, lol. Maybe you could look through the member list and see if it's still there.
Oh, and welcome back

Really? Cool...you don't seem to be on mine. At least, not in the section I have labelled "DM Peeps". But maybe your e-mail address is in my contacts. Maybe we can yet discover what your former username was and then we can all go "Aahhhhhh, it's you!"
.
Edit - just checked another section of my MSN list...you're not Jeremy, are you? (If so, I have no clue what your username would have been unless that was it lol)

Cool...maybe there's a way to check (or for an Admin to check) which usernames are associated with which e-mail addresses (since I seem to recall you need one in order to register here)...then you'd just need to look up the addy to find the username

There probably is, the only problem is that it let me use my email address I'm sure I used to make that account, to make this one!Ameena wrote:Cool...maybe there's a way to check (or for an Admin to check) which usernames are associated with which e-mail addresses (since I seem to recall you need one in order to register here)...then you'd just need to look up the addy to find the username.

I didn't have too many psots under the old account, anyway. So I guess it's okay.

It wasn't Jeremy, so unless it was Jess I have no idea after a first pass I'm afraid. Too busy this weekend to check anything out, if you have any more information I can give you access to yur old account if you need it for anything, or change the name to something close to your current one.

Oh, no. Jeremy's my real name, and what I'm listed as on MSN. I haven't the slightest clue as to what my old account was, but I'm sure I had less than 50 posts so I'm not too worried.beowuuf wrote:It wasn't Jeremy, so unless it was Jess I have no idea after a first pass I'm afraid. Thanks, though.

50 posts? That's nothing. Beowuuf can make 50 posts in less than half an hour - if he is in a good mood.

you know, you could search your own email for the keywords dungeon master since this site would have sent you a welcome letter that you would have had to have read to activate your old account.. and that likely would have your user name.

Surely that would only work if he for some reason hasn't deleted the e-mail?

Re: So, tell us about yourself...
Haha, true. But the fact that I was able to make this account with my main email (which I've had forever) kinda makes me wonder if I didn't use a different email in the first place. And since I would have no way of remembering the email (let alone the password for itAmeena wrote:Surely that would only work if he for some reason hasn't deleted the e-mail?

But that's okay, I like this username. My old one was probably dumb anyway

I could tell you the e-mail address that I have you under on my MSN if that'd be any help - it might be the one that you used here before. I really feel I should be able to remember your old username, seeing how I did that stuff for you before

The one I have for MSN is jeremyroy2005@hotmail.com which is what I used to make this account. Strange, huh?

By the way, I'll ask this quick quesiotn here since I don't think there's a point in making a new topic for this small thing but I just finished DM for the first time and was about to play CSB, but I noticed some people (the undeads at least) in the HoC have about double the health of my strongest guy in DM. Would it be too hard to import my party from DM or should I choose guys from the CSB HoC?

Re: So, tell us about yourself...
Oh that's the e-mail address I have you under in my Messenger. Weird, lol.
As for the DM/CSB thing, I think I messed around a couple of times back on the Atari at recruting CSB chars to play CSB, but certainly since using RTC I've only ever imported and I've done okay. Normally my highest skill level at anything is Expert - I don't think I manage to get anyone to even Lo Master level in DM, lol.
Try it and see

Eh, I don't think it should be a problem - as a new player to the CSB game (if you are) then you will probably spend more time on exploration, and so get a higher level with your DM characters anyway. As long as they are a respectable fraction of the CSB characters, then the initial room should not be too bad!

Whoo, new people! Or old ones! Whatever, it's always cool to see a new member.
Regarding the start of CSB, I suppose you play RTC where characters progress slower in higher levels. You should be fine in CSB, though - the main difficulty of the game is finding your way around, not the monsters.

Although of course, finding your way round isn't made any easier by all the worms and beholder-eye-thingys and scorpions and rats and demons and dragons and munchers etc chasing you

Hello, my name is Tony Severa.
I am the creater of Tony Severa's Hint Disk And Gaming Aids.
Dungeon Master was the first game I make my hint disk for.
In the end, I had made over ten hint disks for different rpg games.
My disks ran on the Atari ST, Amiga and PC.
It was a lot of fun making the disks.
When DM first came out for the ST, me and several friends would sit together and play the game.
We took notes, checked all corners, etc.
I was the 'mapper'.
No one can imagine how we felt when we first got Chaos Strikes Back and migrated our DM characters to it.
Gaming in those days was a 'social' effort.
We all enjoyed taking turns at the seat and having others around us giving us hints and support.
I found this web site recently and am loving playing some of the custom dungeons; although I dont' have all the help I used to have.
Thank you for this opportunity to be a part of this great forum.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know.

Re: So, tell us about yourself...
Welcome to the forums!
If you still have a disk image of your hit disc, I'm sure Christophe from the DM Encyclopaedia would be interested n hosting a copy for posterity!
We have a decent age range here, so many of us remember the social gaming of friends sitting around the computer struggling with a game as group, that online gaming and wikis seem to have replaced somewhat.
As you may notice on the custom dungeon forum, a few of the recent dungeons have been played by a group of us at the same time, so while not in the same room you can still get the group feeling of defeating a dungeon together - with the ability to question or praise the designer too
If you fancy mapping reactor, for instance, I'm sure vexir356 would love you for it
Hope you continue to enjoy yourself!
