Yes, the .sav file is basically a copy of the guts of the game minus equipment stats and graphics (I believe).

I'm afraid you will have to restart. If you have the staff of manar with full charges, and a 100 health party in your previous game then you can make it through. Fast sidesteps to the end net you only fire fireball, and slow advancing does nto increase the samage too much. But you need to use multiple fireshields from the staff (and your champions too if you can), and a normal party shield won't go amiss. However, I'm still stuck at the teleporter beyond, there must be a trick somewhere I'm missing!

Hmmm... Maybe i should reduce it further. Fireball strength now set at 30.

Yes, the last teleport is very fast but can be done. I played it through a couple of times and went through it while i was testing that section. It is indeed infuriating...

Ok, just by random tapping I managed to get passed the teleporter, don't know how. I now know where the fifth coin is for Trantor. Though I now need one myself from some previous area!

Even though there has been slight sleeping it off and no re-casting of the fireshields, the old fireballs seem to consistently be surviveable at @100-110 health. Just got my last guy's bones and ressurected him, so need to get back and find that fifth sar coin.

So if anyone is finding restarting a pain, the old game is doable.

Sorry about the save game thing. It's because i changed the filename to DRKRGNv0.03. The implication didn't strike me at the time.

I changed the saved game filename and it found it, but as ian rightly points out, it loads the old version.

Also, i've just noticed a potential dead end on a later level that i need to fix. So i'm afraid i'll have to post another updated version. Until this is fixed, if you reach an alcove marked 'Valuables' on level 11, only put red gems in it. Anything else will be lost forever.

Never knew you could do that to an RTC dungeon. Are you sure you're just not loading up the old dungeon layout?

Aaaargh, yes you're right ian. My saveed game was on the last level. I just ran back to the deathfield and it's the same as old.

I will compile it again with the changes, but with the old filename.

Yeah, basically the new dungeon needs to be replayed, the saved game contains the old dungeon and will use the old information

Too bad I never carry staffs around with me, so I don't have the Staff of Manar. :( I'm afraid I'll stop playing for now since I don't feel like going through all of it again right now, which is especially sad since I consider the dungeon to get better and better as you progress. I will eventually finish it, but that might be a few weeks away.

I wish I could remember where the staff of Manar is for you - I feel it was actually pretty early on

Certainly the snake staff and staff of manar give a decent mana boost that I carry them, I just usually don't find a use for their powers ;D

Hi Saumun, game is good so far, enjoying it! I'm a little bit lost at the "prison" though. I have got into the first 3 cells and have picked up a solid key which fits into the last cell... I'm lost though as i can't find another key to open that door? I have 3 winged and 1 gold key but not sure what else to do. Was there something down the "there is nothing here" corridor that i missed... i've tried searching for a secret wall but no luck to date. Any help would be appreciated.

Buttons! So many buttons :D

Look for a wall button, perhaps one or two back fro mthe end of a corridor - sometimes a button will open a wall somewhere else, and that button will open the wall where you just were

Right... now i'm frustrated, i have tried and tried (even with the forward key constantly presseed) and with no items on the charactors to ensure nothing holding them back and I cannot get passed that teleporter. I have had it running for about 2 hours with no luck. Does the pc spec make a difference to what is/not possible? I have a Quad with 6MB ram with Vista 64. I would happily share my save if someone else could get passed?

I don't think so, I literally though it was impossible, then all of a sudden I was on the other side. I had given up twice, it was only when Sauman said he got passed it I tried again.

All I can say is that if you keep your finger on the button, you don't get it. I tried to intelligently attack it, then just started pressing the button at random intervals without getting in to a rhythmn.

I can give it a try again if you want to send it to beowuuf@yahoo.com. I'm trying to figure out the fifth sar coin, it will be somewhere obvious

Grr to RTC and the more lethal lightning and sight distances, Wizard Eyes are wiping me out with sniping before I can find them, which is stupid as I just survived the Deathfield!

lol - I'm such a fool... 2-3 hours of trying to navigate through using the keyboard (that's the only way i EVER navigate) and all of a sudden it occurs to me from beowuuf's post "if you keep your finger on the button, you don't get it"... used the mouse on the directional pad and 1st time i got through... reminder to self, using the mouse/directional pad is much...much...much quicker! Ok, here goes. This might be long winded.

I have put a small side chamber back in the 'Feed Me' room on level 3. The food will respawn a couple of times if the player is prepared to wait.
I have reduced the fireball strength in the deathfield on level 6 and have slowed down the teleport just after it.
I have made a change to a potential dead end on level 11 and reduced the fireball strength near some traps on level 13.

I must admit i didn't anticipate making all these changes. My green fingers are showing a little, huh?

So..... If you don't want to start again, only put the red gems on the alcove marked 'Valuables' on level 11. Any other items will be lost after the door opens.

The five Sar coins on level 6, following the corridor after the iron door, are located:- 1) first passage to the right in a section opened by a small switch. 2) Released by an Ant Man in the second passage to the right. 3) first passage to the left, released by a Gold Worm through one of the teleports. 4) third passage to the right, small chamber revealed by three tiny switches in the room full of Skeletons. 5) behind a door after the deathfield and repeating teleports.

Here is the link to the updated version and i will change the links in my previous posts.

http://www.zshare.net/download/58979281add71398/

Beowuuf.... If possible, could you get rid of the old version on dm.com and include this one instead. Cheers.

Ok, the DRKRGN.RTC link is now the newest version

Also, I was walking back over my tracks, when you mentioned antmen I started lifting clubs - there was my fifth coin! I thought I'd explored everywhere!

Saumun I would like to thank you for a very good dungeon and if this is your first effort then I am sure that we are in for much greater things. However.......can I just say that before releasing your dungeon to your adoring public (and I am sure that beowuuf and the others playing it will agree) that it is essential that you get it play tested first. That way all the litle quirks that we have been picking up in the last few days would have been ironed out. It is fraustrating to play all day and then come to what is almost a deadend and then have to go back to the start and play from the beginning. All that is except beowuuf who seems to be almost superhuman - except that even he sometimes forgets to look under clubs of dead antmen (basic mistake). Again many thanks and away I go again from the start.

What can I saw, club blindness aside I'm pretty freakin' amazing - who wants to touch me? :D

I have to echo both vexirk's words - this is a nice first dungeon, and a playtest for different styles would have given you instant props all the time :)

If you have the five coins, you should have found one behind a right hand door out of a choice of two. The left hand door has a coin slot behind it

Saumun, I've progressed to the next level, used the blood key on the first lock and killed everything in sight. I used the coin to open the door but I'm now stuck. There is no key in sight, i'm sure i've pressed every button in the room... Is the teleporter supposed to do something? Where might i get the key from? - found it with a bit of back tracking!

I have just deposited the 5 SAR coins in the slot which has given me a key. There is was a green triangular button on the wall which I pressed. Not quite sure what that did - but never mind. I used the key to enter one of the other rooms which has a number of small room with grid doors on. I have pressed a wall button which opened up a coridor with 6 red buttons on. Do I have to press these buttons in a sequence, just one of them, all of them or what. I have pressed all of them but none of the doors opens. What am I missing. Answers on a postage stamp to........

I think I have now worked out the room with the 6 red buttons. A teleport somehow appeared (don't ask me how). And I managed to teleport to the room with the chest which contained a key. I think I am right in thinking that the other rooms contain nothing. With the key I entered another of the doors outside and using the magnifying glass opened uip a corridor which took me to a blue button. I have pressed the blue button and I cannot work out what this has done. Any clues please guys?

If this is on the "play with fire" or something like that, then you have to go back to the beginning of the level and take the right hand door - this takes you to the next level (eventually).

My question is this - On the level with lots of buttons and rats - i think i have done all i can. I have got the winged key, opened a teleporter to the beginning of the level and got a skeleton key. With delight i ran back up stairs (a few levels) used the topaz key and skeleton key and then all 6 of my winged keys - realising i must need two more. The problem is i have no idea where they are. So 3 questions...

1. Are there any stairs down from the rat/buttons/skeleton key level (it says about a pit and rewards - but the only pit i could find was in the 2nd area and i looted that)...
2. Are there only 6 winged keys upto this point, or have i lost a couple somewhere?
3. I used the rope to climb down to the "torture chamber" some way back but guessed this wasn't the right route as the fall was hard on my charactors - should i have used this route to get the other keys?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will indeed get any future dungeons play tested.

Ok... On level 6, as you know there are 3 iron doors opened by square keys but only the 2 doors to the front left and right of the stairs have available keyholes. Complete one of the 2 paths to get a square key and press the green button at the end. Use the key to open the other path. Complete that and you get another square key. Pressing the green button at the end of the first 2 paths reveals the keyhole to the third. After completing the third, and pressing the blue button at the end, go back to the beginning and a moveable wall has deactivated to reveal a topaz key which unlocks the ornate door. In the room immediately after the ornate door is a switch which reveals another switch and then a 3rd. This opens the passage for the Winged Key for this level.

In the area with the 6 red buttons, 5 of them activate a teleport in the tiles behind the portcullis' and 1 is a dummy switch. When you get the chest into the final room a teleport appears allowing you to enter.

For Money...

There are no stairs down from level 8 (rats & vexirks). The only way to level 9 is the way that you have taken, however, there are 8 winged keys. One on each of the first 8 levels.

The Torture Chamber is just a seperate level not necessary to complete the game, but there is some useful armour and weapons down there.

I can post the locations of the winged keys if you wish.

I've just started playing this dungeon, and it's really great! Thanks, Saumun. It's very addictive :D (unfortunately... because I've got a lot of work to do.. doh! :( ) I always say to myself... "just go to the next door, then save it and Ctrl-Q, and do something proper"... but then, at the door, I say "OK, just open it and look what's behind, and then quit the game", so I open it and look around, and do a few steps into the room, and then find something interesting, so I say "OK, now, I'll finish this room and get to the next door and then DEFINITELY quit the game there...", etc. etc. That can't be good!
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

For Saumun

I think I must have found a flaw in the system as I just pressed red buttons, the teleport appeared, I jumped into it and went straight to the room with the chest. Obviously it wasn't supposed to happen as easily as that. I have now picked up the blood key and found a door that opens when you stand on a plate, if you move off the plate then the door closes again. I can see a plate through the door so am I correct in assuming that once the door is open that you have to throw an object through to land on the plate to keep the door open. At the other end of the is a wooden door which I have tried to blast through with out any success, I just hope that I didn't have to side step one of those little wizards when they through a fireball cos I have killed them!!!!
