most stupid and unappliable law has been adopted

Post by linflas »

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HADOPI_law

The following is a babelfish pasted text with slight improvement of what hasn't been translated yet in english wikipedia :

To reduce penalty (Internet connection removal from 2 months to 1 year), the customer (of any ISP) will have to accept that a spy program is installed on his computer. This software will control all entering and outgoing data, will be obligatory and NOT free. The minister of Culture Christine Albanel refused the exemption of payment for this software. People using a noncompatible OS will not be exonerated. Among these noncompatible systems, one will undoubtedly count : Mac OS, but also GNU/Linux, and other minority systems (BSD, Solaris…), as well as the old versions of Windows. The nature and precise functions of this software are still NOT known. In the version presented on April 29, 2009, it is supposed to supervise all electronic communications, which includes e-mail and all the other private communications and industrial or commercial secrecy for any company.

anything similar in your countries ?

So hang on. If you have a genuine complaint you have to wait a whole year before anything is done about a copyright breach, and if you want to grief someone you get to anonymously accuse them and have them pestered for a year for something they aren't even told the details of so they can't defend against it?

That sounds both ineffective for it's purpose while rife for abuse! Maybe I didn't read it correctly....

Oh dear god, I never got down that far! Words fail me, are people this far out of touch really in charge of this policy?

people behind the HADOPI law are Universal and other major music companies, right wing artists, FNAC, which is the first cultural content seller in France, all are Sarkozy's (you know, our new emperor) relatives. As he did for all new laws since he's president, he introduces the main idea in a press conference and the government has 2 months to make a law and adopt it...
All ISP are against that law but have to shut their mouths, especially Free, which is the most popular ISP but is in hope of getting the right to be the 4th french mobile network provider.

It's always the same.
Some people (okay, in that case it are surely not just some) try to trick others (in that case violating copyright rules) to save money. It ends up in oversized laws that harm privacy in a way that is surely a violation too (at least to those people who did not violate the rules) - but that's legal then.
And - I'm pretty sure that there are some who rub hands now having that gate installed (and are more illegal than all others...)
Hmmm, Bill's family name gets a brandnew meaning...

It's nice that they care for the rights of those millionaires.
I just wish I had given out only licenses for all my programming works instead of being paid normally.
I bet, I had a better life...
I won't comment more, I had to censor myself immediately, because after all - the internet forgets nothing - and you'll pay for each little sin when the 'sindicators' are installed!
Somehow they must balance the economy sooner or later...

Simply scary. Chilling to the bone. If it goes through I'd be amazed as on the French Euro coin it says something like Liberté (Freedom) on it.

I've heard somewhere that something similar is being prepared for the whole EU, but it's definitely a gossip... likely... I hope... oh, dear...

They tried already in Germany to install a backdoor to computers in general for secret services - because of terrorism.
Now, if terrorism is the word for social unrests because of a worldwide economic crisis too, then you got it.
They must control that in the very early stages - or they lose their jobs too some day (if not more...).

It's just logic that this happened in france first - I mean - was the first country where the workers kidnapped the managers, or?

Governments monitoring the entire internet (and by extension, the rest of our lives) is probably inevitable, hell, it's pretty much here already. George Orwell predicted it very clearly and we all know how that story ends.

I think it's about time we had a new revolution. We've been apathetic to what's going on around us for far too long. People got off their asses in the 60s and 70s to demonstrate against such things, now most of us just sit at home twiddling our technology tired thumbs, possibly discussing the issues briefly and tutting, and then going off and playing more Halo or whatever it is we do.

Let's start a revolution. Down with Government! Who's with me?

Me!
What government shall we start with? I suggest the Czech one. They are only two or three days in office so no one should notice. :)

Meanwhile, I'll start a list of governments we want to overthrow, with proposed dates (weekends and holidays excluded because we wouldn't find anyone in office, Mondays and Fridays excluded in the Czech case as well) and responsibilities:

1. Czech Republic, May 14, Jan
2. UK, May 15, Gambit
3. EU, May 18, ?
4. ?

I suggest using "defenestration" - it's Czech favourite way of overthrowing a government, most of European revolutions and wars started with Czech "defenestrating" their governments (e.g., 1419 and 1618). It worked, believe me. :)

Defenestration is one of my favourite words. I would love to throw Gordon Brown out of a window. :-)

One day to overthrow a Government is a bit tight for my schedule though, I think I might need two.

I don't think a government can be overthrown per partes - I think all the ministers must be overthrown more or less at one time. You should take your vacations to do so or employ other people to help you. You are the national coordinator for the UK however, so we'll leave this for your own intelligent design.

I hope nobody tries to overthrow the US government while Obama is in power. He's already treated like some sort of messianic figure, we don't need to make him a martyr, too. Besides, the Kennedys would get jealous.

Another option would be to ban you, Wuufie, but it would decrease the number of new posts by ca 1/3 here, and that's something we cannot afford in the current economic crisis.

I've been distracted by real life again (days with 14 hours of work and a one-week-vacation from which I have just returned).

So, in order to get banned again: Who likes Mophus?

Some news in french : http://www.numerama.com/magazine/13112- ... aduee.html
it seems that the law could finally only warn users about the "bad things they do" but wouldn't punish them, which is close to what you have in UK
