money rolls 2d20 and gets 19,16

1st is Perception Roll
2nd was for knowledge (arcana) Roll

I'm starting to like this ajax chat roll facility :)

With rolls like that, not surprised!

Ok, since all the rolls are in, I've gone and completed a new update post with some more information for you all. Enjoy! As said in the IC thread, normal posting schedule will resume after today's break-necked speed :)

I'll have to post at lunch today - just a note though that i'm away on a Stag W/E from mid day tomorrow... I'll post in the morning though so we can keep the story going and happy for you to continue in my absence. Anyhow, back to work - and more importantly, working out my next update.

I might reveal more of the map and contents of the room so people can debate over the weekend, but we can keep it a light update weekend and resume on Monday proper.

Is there anything about this cloak worth noting, apart from the fact it smells of magic/mana? Because unless for some reason Falkor doesn't want her to, Ameena would love to get stuck in and give it a good sniff over. Well, maybe a bit of a nervous sniff since it smells of magic, and that's something she's usually unsure about. Although if there's a difference between "good" magic and "nasty" magic (like, whether it gives of a sense of being from something malevolent or more benign), would she detect anything like that, or is magic just magic, regardless?
Ohh, in your last IC update, Wuffy, you mentined that Murafu don't ever use magic or something - that's not actually true. I'm sure I've mentioned before that some murafu are magic-users. Not the type who draw magic from any kind of "deity", though, but just plain old rune-wielders. It's sort of uncommon among the Murafu, but you do get casters here and there. They'd probably prefer to keep it to themselves, though, given how most other races tend to view them. And they wouldn't use aggressive magics - probably utility stuff and healing. But since Ameena's not a magic-user, it's okay that all this stuff is so unfamiliar - she's never really looked into it before.

It's silvery grey, smells of magic, but otherwise looks quite ordinary. Seems human sized, though could probably be easily adapted for halfling/murafu use by some judicious tucks and folds. You cannot tell any flavours of magic, not even priest and wizard magic. Mana expentidure smells, a mana resevour in a person might be detectable, and any powerful magical items may well still bear a scent of mana (more likely clothing. staves and other 'soft' items, armour and metal weapons might be harder ot detect)

I'll adjust the IC post when I get home (running out of lunch time!), didn't want to attribute to Ameena directly, but remembered a general 'non-magic' stance and thought it was from murafu as a whole.

Oh, and obviously Haynuus had said about moving on, and now Westian has indictaed the same. Those two could go scout ahead to the room, leaving Ameena and Falkor to analyse the cloak in the 'safety' of the doorway.

There's nothing more a perception check could tell about the cloak, but if you two suspect it to be valuable or magical, certainly both of you could make appraise checks for your characters examining it. This is a 'you know it or you don't' check, so taking 10 or 20 isn't possible I'm afraid. Even in something like this, feel free to RP exactly what you are looking for or suspect the item to be, as I will happily thow bonuses your way or even ignore the results of the check if you nail it. Also don't forget to tell me if you wear it, want to say special words, etc.

Just for the record, Ameena's not "anti-magic" in any way - she doesn't hate or fear it, specifically - after all, other murafu use it and they're all fine. Murafu don't judge each other the same way other species can seem to - if a murafu wants to use magic, then that's fine. They're pretty much a peaceful, gentle, social race as a whole, so whatever one of them wants to do is never frowned upon or anything. Ameena herself just has never really looked in that direction, having grown up learning to use her physical skills and abilities.
As for the cloak, Ameena's probably just gonna be a bit nervous about it because it's an unknown object and because it smells of magic - it could be cursed or anything. And also she'll see reason to be a bit edgy about it if Falkor mentions the coincidental timing of his removing it from the alcove and the door starting to close.

All hail Ian for managing a nice character beat in a way that sneakily gives both Falkor and Westian the SAR rune. Yes, both rune users will recognise it immediately! They might feel a little nauseous though...

Hey Ameena, does this nervousness mean character Ameena won't be appraising the cloak with her rogue-like professional eye?

Anyway, quick Falkor-centric update up as he examines the cloak, since he will not be moving for the moment (and that lets money make any final moves or comments before the weekend!). Edit: And anyone looking right now would have seen the results of a check higher than 15. I realised I was being a little generous and trimmed a few hints out, sorry!

If the rest of you wish to check out the further corridor, I can update the map and also provide information on any area you wish to examine closer. If you wish to be cautious, feel free to roll perception or do something else on the way forward. Ameena is correct though, even distracted she should be able to sense anything natural with a scent before it comes through the door. So you can describe quite broad actions without fear of a mocking DM. *whistles innocently*

I will provide an Ameena-centric update about the cloak it is also being appraised by our resident rogue. If not then I guess Falkor stays back while the rest of you wander ever onwards!

Lol, and thus Falkor's character was cheer-led into putting on the cloak of parasitic nasty evildeath :)

Westian can take a quick look at the cloak later if Ameena does not spot anything. For now he is eager to move on, so long as Haynuus is there too, and will cautiously go towards the doorway with his club at the ready. This will not only help with the exploration, but also mean that he will be far away when Falkor puts on the exploding cloak.

I won't post a formal update, but the good news is nothing happens to Falkor. The bad news is, nothing happens to Falkor. No more rolls ncessary nor possible (unless you come up with a good one with a good reason!) For now, until Falkor gains 5 more ranks in arcana, learns the appraise skill, or learns from another source a major clue to the cloak, he can't try another check. You are welcome to post a few ideas for activation in the OOC thread from time to time aswell.

So anyone else is free to move onwards without worrying about Falkor being in any weird condition!

Ok, an update for Haynuus has also been posted now, which includes a full map of the room and some descriptions of the contents. That's two of you moved and updated accordingly, two to go :)

Note that Haynuus hasn't really checked out the corridor, so Ameena or Westian can check that out first if they like.

I'm not going to post an official inventory of the room. When you guys go in to search it, please indicate what you would be looking for in terms of carrying aids and basic dungeon equipment, and I'll tell you if you come across it.

Note that until you move the cupboard (which should be simple for two people, but dangerous if there's anything under there...) you may find the contents of the room a little limited.

Ameena, I know you'll be sick of rolling d20s by the end of tonight, but if you want your namesake to examine the cloak further, I still need that appraise roll :)

No worries! In the room Westian will start examining the stuff, trying to find what is useful and not broken (not laying claim to any of it, just putting the good stuff in a big pile that we can sort out later). Of interest would be flasks, the water skins, food, weapons, armour, the completed firestaff, backpacks, writings, etc. etc.

Once Ameena gets done with this bloody cloak, she'll move on into murafu heaven and stick her nose into every possible piece of junk to try and find anything either interesting or useful, or both :).

Does Westian want to get together with Haynuus to move the cupboard first, sort out the rest of the items first, or something else?

And awww, you don't like the cloak? Maybe's it's really cool magic!

There we go, I believe all four of you are all up to date together again :)

Right, Ameena and Falkor can either discuss the cloak, check out the corridor, or get right to the scrounging for equipment! Westian and Haynuus need to decide if they are tidying up first, or directly scrounging equipment first. And, you know, if they are scared of the stairway at all :)

Money, if you have a decent idea of what Falkor wants to do terms of immediate actions and equipment scrounging, we might have one more update before the weekend. Otherwise, everyone has the weekend into Monday to come up with a player wish-list of cool items they hope to find. Oh_brother's already got a head start :)

I might be able to update again before i leave... in short though i need to know if a roll is required for putting my hand in the recess.... following this, assuming i don't end up dead or muted i would like to call over Westian to talk over the runes that we have seen - would seem like a good time before we descend and get pre-occupied with other issues. Other than that i'm quite happy for Haynuus to "kit me out" so the story can continue. :)

And once again money through Falkor obliges an eager DM ....

Ameena, can you give me an idea of where your namesake would be relative to Falkor when he's walking? By the sounds of it, your original plan was to run forward into the room, but I'm not sure if Ameena would walk with Falkor to be polite or would leave hi behind (or would take a last look at the door).

Money, if you see this before leaving (have a great weekend!) could you roll me a reflexes save please? As always, d20 roll! You'll get an additional +2 on it that will be explained by the next update ...

Ameena, if you are anywhere close to or behind Falkor, can you also roll me a reflexes save please?

Westian and Haynuus won't notice or be affected by this yet, so you can still assume you are sortinghrogh the stuff.

I'll answer Ian's post in the OOC at lunchtime to let you know roughly what you can collect so far!

Double post money! Yep, roll me a d20 then you are clear. You can, after the excitement of the recess dies down speak to Westian about the runes. Not to spoil anything, but both your knowledge checks were such that you should uncover the UM rune itself, and of course you've got your shared runes.
