On a smack-for-smack basis the mummy would probably beat them outright. The closer the thing got, the more Haynuus realised that it would possess supernatural strength. Whether that strength came from an evil magic curse or possibly an enchanted crown it was wearing around it's head he couldn't tell. They desperately needed a plan.

With both Westian and Falkor a bit too close to the mommy, he would have only one last round free to think clearly. If only they were with him next to the fire!

His first instinct was to hurl a club in his hand at the mommy, yet perhaps he could get our Ameena to provide some meta-assistance? Reaching into his backpack he pulled out a 50' rope and tossed the majority of it to our Marfurru friend. "Try wrapping it around the mommy while we smack it up." he hissed. "We'll pull it into the fire." There were going to be many distractions to the mommy, surely a tiny squeaky giza with a rope won't catch it's attention...

And with that he put the other end of the rope between his teeth.

"Gnuuurfhuu!"

With the dexterity of a juggler, and the strength of a strongman, and yet looking like a clown our circus of an half-orc Haynuus swapped the weapons in his hands and threw his original club into the foolishly halted mummy.

"Tathe thaaght!" he shouted as he released the club (1d20=20, 1d6=4) with an action what could only be regarded as the best show on earth.

Haynuus managed the dexterous feat of extracting the rope from his pack, throwing an end to Ameena, then throwing his club. Lesser fighters would have done it in a different order considering the burning torch still in hand, but lesser fighters did not possess the sheer focus of intellect of Haynuus. Or at least his ability to ignore diffucult things until they went away.

Yes, lesser fighters would have thrown first, but in their distraction lesser fighters would have missed.

The mummy had been locking eyes with Westian. There was a crowded moment when suddenly a loud 'CRACK' echoed in the hall and the mummy's head was snapped back as the thrown club perfectly struck the creature in the side if its head with the full force Haynuus's could provide.

Haynuus at once knew something was wrong. Normally a blow like that would have sent a creature to the ground, perhaps permanently. And the mummy did take a small step back to steady itself. However, as the creature slowly rocked its head back to an upright position, it seemed to shake its head clear a little too quickly.

Ian, this was a round about way of saying 'the mummy has damage resistance'. As Ameena feared, this creature takes less damage from some weapon attacks. At the very least your normal bludgeoning damage from clubs won't do as much damage as you roll. You still did some damage though!

Westian was already taking advantage, his own club sailing through the air. However, the mummy had to do little more than step on its other foot to avoid the club, and the weapon carried on sailing onwards. There was a clattering echo at the back of the hall a moment later. The mummy barely acknowledged the retreating creatures at the other side of the hall, too enraged by Haynuus's action to mock their actions.

Falkor had already taken a step back, all the better to see inside the closest, open tomb beside him. He could spot the tomb was practically empty. There was a sword inside, but it was in poor condition, worse yet broken close to the hilt with barely a blade anymore. There did appear to be something on the hilt though, some form of crest faded by time.

Ameena was also investigating the tomb closest to her. With broken pieces on the floor, it was harder to see any contents. However, her nose did not steer her wrong, and she found a strange metal plate half-buried and sprinkled in stone dust. It seemed to be curved in shape, and the metal was tarnished and dull. Whatever it was, the previous occupant of the tomb did not seem to have wanted it anymore and had abandoned it when leaving.

Ameena, this is actually a breastplate, but I'll it to you to react to it how you will.

"Fa-teh'a teh goh," growled the mummy, his pitch black eyes locked on Haynuus. The creature easily stepped on the dais of his tomb. With a powerful blow he pushed the lid of the tomb to fully open it. If he had meant to sent the lid out in warning to his foes was unknown, the solid slab caught on one of the tomb edges, span on place at the corner, and slid down with a loud 'THUMP'. There was a cloud of dust and an ominous echo at how heavy the lid was.

Meanwhile the mummy dropped his gaze down briefly into the revealed space and reached inside. With a rumble deep in its chest it pulled free a dull silver sword from the black depths. For a moment it allowed the wide blade to play in the edge of the torchlight. Then it locked its gaze back on Haynuus and pointed directly at the half-orc with the weapon.

"HUK-KA TEH BAY-NA, FOW'WA RAKA!"

Ok, the mummy is angry. It's also injured. Well done. Now, do something brilliant before it kills you all :D

Note the fallen tomb lid now blocks easy movement on D6. You'll need an extra square of movement to move through it, can't charge or run through that square, and you'll need an acrobatics check to do anything on that square (even just standing!)

You should be able to move the rope quickly above or through the flames of the rags. However, with Ameena holding one end, the central tomb will be difficult to navigate around on different sides.

Haynuus assessed the situation and did the math. Yes people, he's no big thinker here.

He wreckoned that the mummy would reach him the next time it moved (unless it tripped over those rags between them - ho, ho) but would be toasting on the fire in front of him if it did. In a sort of Haynuus takes one for the lads attitude he thought it'd be best if he didn't move and let the angry monstrosity come to him on his terms... All this assuming the heroic Westian would come to his senses and come by his side. Religeous ferver was one thing, getting a smack in the face was another.

So when/if it arrived the next goal was hoping that Ameena would run, scurry or even scutter across round the back and start to tie the thing up unknowingly. Even Haynuus could help by sidestepping the other direction 5' diagonally... All this while getting chopped up of course.

Falkor was probably the most important of all - bandages to heal those mortal wounds. A quick glance to his direction confirmed that he wasn't on a cigarette break again but we did have him bent over with his ass pointing out of a tomb saying "Ohhh fascinating!" which would cause despair in most mortal men considering the importance of the situation.

Finally, Haynuus. What to do? Pulling his finger out of his ear he decided to take one step back, pick up the club at E1 and hand it to Westian, returning back to the original spot at E2... OOC - He'd throw it himself if he could, but it's most important to be back behind or next to the fire. I doubt an intimidation attempt would be necessary either!

Ameena is nosing inside the stone container to ry and see what the strange metal thing is that she's found when something clouts her in the side of the head and nearly causes her to bash her face on the stone surface. Haynuus's shout prevents her from panicking as she realises she isn't being attacked, and she looks down to see one end of a piece of rope on the floor, the other end trailing away from her toward Haynuus. She doesn't have much time to react to this when the half-orc, with uncanny accuracy, hurls another club at the undead creature. From the apparent lack of damage dealt by the club, Ameena wonders how they can deal with this thing.
Haynuus's suggestion creeps back to her. Pull it into the fire? How can she hope to achieve that? Like most creatures, this thing towers over her, and she instinctively knows she'd never have the strength to pull it anywhere, tied up or not. And besides, she doesn't want to get near to it. It doesn't smell good, and somehow she reckons it could probably quite easily crush a murafu skull in those bandaged hands. Why bandage a corpse, anyway?
But then, what can she do?
She nervously reaches out and picks up the end of the rope, but doesn't go anywhere.
"I don't think I can...I mean, I'm not strong..." she says, looking nervously between the undead thing (which by now has removed a sword from the large container in the centre of the room) and Haynuus.

If only the sword had been in tact - he was sure this would have been of great use to the others... Still, hearing the crack and seeing the monster still standing Falkor realised this was going to be a drawn out fight and prepared for battle, Hopefully Haynuus orWestian could get another hit in before it got too close, and while this was going on it would give Falkor some time to focus on his knife throwing - if it would help.

Grabbing the club from Haynuus Westian flung it with full force towards the mummy. Sadly it hit the edge of the sarcophagus first and bounced to the side, falling harmlessly to the floor.
The mummy then picked up a large sword from his tomb – the thought of that cold steel being forced through flesh almost made Westian retch in disgust and fear. Looking at the rope thrown to Ameena he admitted to himself that their chances of defeating this creature in a face-to-face battle were slim, some extra help was certainly needed. Clearly the plan was to trip or incapacitate the mummy, possibly bringing him close to the fire. Seeing her hesitation he felt the need to offer some advice. “Ameena, I won’t lie to you, this is not going to be easy. But we will strike as one, and protect each other.” As he spoke he was quickly moving to stand between Haynuus and Ameena, where he expected the mummy’s charge to be focused. Making sure to stand behind the rope he gripped his club with both hands.
“Lord Larethian, and all good High Lords, protect us from the evil we now face. We fight in your names, and know that evil will never triumph.”
With those words he braced himself for the onslaught.

The creature looked down its raised weapon at Haynuus, as if to see what the half-orc would do. The mummy snarled as Haynuus moved to reload Westian with another club, and Westian threw another defiant - if equally mis-aimed - club.

"KAH-BAH!" yelled the thing. Although the voice was dry as a desert one could imagine spit should have been thrown out at the utterance. The voice sounded mocking hiding great anger.

The mummy held its blade close and arched its body forward, starting another inexorable charge. This time it strode over the rags on the floor on the way, almost nodding to them as it went onwards.

Westian and Haynuus could feel something had gone wrong. Perhaps by jumping the first rags the creature had missed its step, or by acknowledging them it had taken its eyes from the group for a second.

The mummy leapt a powerful leap, but too soon. It passed through the fire yet did not land beyond it. Haynuus's torch reflexively raised and the mummy was forced backwards as the torch flared. The mummy had nowhere else to go but to step directly back into the flame it had tried to power through.

The creature yelled.

It felt like the room shook, the cry of agony was so great. One could imagine a dust storm created such a noise when railing against the sandy landscape around it. The creature twisted to escape the flames but the fire of the rags already had a hold on it.

Falkor had been across the room, using the opportunity of the mummy's distraction to check the next sarcophagus. Unfortunately this one was a wreck, pieces strewn outside. Quite a few clumps from the top and sides had fallen inside. Falkor couldn't see anything obvious inside. He turned to the back of all the hall, realising he could almost see the whole back wall. As it was, he saw more sarcophagi stretching out broken in the murky light, but more importantly he could see the start of a recess in the shadows of the back wall. A corridor or another doorway perhaps?

Falkor took one quick look back at the sarcophagi beside him, and thought he spotted a glint. Was there something under the mess?

Then he heard the scream of the mummy.

However, any triumph he or the group might have felt at the mummy burning was shortlived. The creature was not turning to ash, it was still standing tall. And worse, a closer look at the tip of its swinging weapon showed blood. Orc blood.

The creature's attack had gone wrong afterwards, but had apparently achieved its task first. Haynuus had a huge welling wound to one side of his stomach. It looked deep. There was certainly alot of blood on the mummy's sword and starting to pool at the orc's feet.

Well, that was a weird set of rolls. Made the trip check ok on the rags, then completely messed up the easier jump check. So instead of leaping into Haynuus's square and trying to bullrush him out of the way (being in the clear and ready to attack next turn) the mummy has ended up in the flames! However, the bullrush attack that Haynuus might have been able to beat has turned into a normal attack that Haynuus's AC could not.

Sorry Ian, that's a whopping 14hp damage from the mummy's sword!

Can someone (first come first used in the OOC thread) roll 1d6 for the fire damage. The mummy failed the further check to avoid catching fire, so can the same someone also roll another 1d6 for next turn's damage please!

Happy now, you annoyed that mummy so much with your club throwing, and looked so pathetic with your retreating, that it attacked. And now look at it :(

Ameena watches as the undead creature comes shambling forward, sword held out in front of it. She wonders how well it can grip the weapon, considering the bandages covering its hands. Assuming it actually has any hands.
Then the creature tries to jump through the fire. So, as she'd feared, it is more agile than it looks. But maybe not quite. It almost fully clears the fire, then falls back into it. But just before it does, Ameena sees a horrifying sight.
She sees the creature's sword penetrate Haynuus's side.
She is no healer. She wouldn't know how to patch up something like that. And besides, the creature would probably just kill both of them if she tried to help him. But perhaps one of the others can help the half-orc, if someone can keep the creature busy. Even if only for a few seconds.
Friends are for life. Life is for friends.
Ameena remembers someone telling her that once. A murafu, of course. It's something all her kind hold dear. For what is life if you have no-one to share it with? And if a friend is in trouble, what else can you do but join them in their trouble, whatever the cost?
And Ameena considers Haynuus a friend. She has to. She has to consider at least one of these people a friend. If she didn't, if she thought she really was alone in this horrible place, she'd probably go mad.
All this flits through her mind in barely a split second, and so, mere moments after she sees the undead creature strike Haynuus, she acts.
She lets go of the end of the rope, drops to all fours, darts forward and around behind the undead creature, reaches back with a forepaw draws her knife, and slashes at its lower legs, ignoring the fire and wondering whether she can trip the creature up.

OOC - Rolling to see if I hit...wargh where's my d20...aha....right, rolled a 13. I don't know what bonuses need to be added to that (I'm flanking the mummy, obviously, so I dunno if I get a Sneak Attack or whatever), and I can't remember what the roll is for my knife so I can't do that...well I think it was 1d3 so I'll roll a d6 and halve it anyway, just in case - and I roll a 3 so presuming I round up, that's a 2. Again, I don't know the bonuses (if any). This might get me squished, but if I'm going to be realistic about this, it's what any murafu would do in the same situation :).

"AAGGGHHFfffenuhhrrr!" which whould have been a terrible orcish curse were it not for his enormous tongue hanging out of one side of his mouth, the end of a rope dangling out the other and rivulets of saliva streaming out from everywhere else.

The good news is that the mummy was on fire which was exactly what Haynuus had planned. He could be happily knocked unconcious now. The bad news was that last attack really fucking hurt.

Haynuus moved diagonally 5' south west and had the choice to either try something clever like to trip up the mommy or to hit the thing. Hard.

He just didn't have the time to put his finger in his ear and decide properly so he resorted to his instincts. Yes it's Power Attack time! During his club wielding / goblin battering years he developed a special technique for incapacitating those wretched little beasties. While everyone assumed that you would swing the club he learnt that you could also do heinous amounts of damage by wielding it in both hands at waist height and then forcefully pushing it forward at great speed into the chest or face of the person in front of you. He would end up with his whole body taught along one axis from the back of his foot in a straight line of muscle and wood into the body of his opponent who would be at the receiving end of a bucket load of kinetic energy to some how get rid of... Usually with an exploding nose or crushed rib cage.

So with two hands on the torch he attempted to drive it into the mommy's body OOC - with a '2' on the power attack thingy?... d20 to hit, d6 damage, d6 fire damage (1d20=17, 1d6=6, 1d6=5)

Falkor realised that the others were in trouble, it was time to take action - he just hoped he would be ok at the end of it to help heal Haynuus wounds... As fast as his legs would carry him he move around the pile of rag (C5,D4) and holding the knife stabbed it into the creature...

OOC: Check for Hit (1d20=12), And for Damage (1d3=3) - Just hope it will make a difference...

Seeing the mummy engulfed in flames Westian felt a surge of hope and charged towards the creature. A roar from Haynuus caused him to turn around, and just in time to avoid steeping on the freshly formed pool of blood on the ground. He never thought that he would meet an orc whom he would like, but Haynuus had grown on him. He may not have been blessed with conversational skills - or a sense of hygiene - but Westian could tell that this half-orc was basically a good person and Westian had no wish to see him die.
Knowing that they had to bring this creature down soon Westian swung his club with both hands. Maybe it was the distraction of seeing a comrade wounded. Maybe it was the heat from the flames. Maybe it was the rapid, erratic movements of the burning mummy. Whatever the reason Westian's swing caught only empty air.

Ok, map update will be later. My understanding is Haynuus is on D3, still with the rope. The other end of the rope is dropped by Ameena and still rests on G1. Westian is at E2, Falkor is at D4, and Ameena is at E4.

Haynuus's powerful blow and unique technique saw a successful restribution for the wound inflicted. The mummy howled again as the fire from Haynuus's torch eagerly leapt to join its fellow's lacklustre tongues. Haynuus had to push very hard to make even a rib crack, and creature seemed in much greater pain from the fire of the torch.

Yep, all calucluations seem to point ot a good hit there Ian! If it had been a close thing, I think DM fiat would have seen your brilliant description earn you some spruiously justified combat bonus or +1, but you passed its AC anyway (even without the flanking you moved out of). Its damage resistance kicks in for some of the physical part of your torch hit, althogh not all of it. Not when you have power attack and two handed swinging action! Note that not only can't it shake off the fire part of your attack, it actual seems greatly very affected by it. Fire bad!

The two smaller members of the group - driven by their various reasons - also joined in to help. Although their knives found the creatures body in the whirl of flame, both felt it do little more than dent the mummy's wrapping. Apparently, the sraps of clothe were tough, even to a keen blade. Ameena, too, realised that a dead thing didn't really have a spot any more vulnerable to the next. Did it breath? Did it have a working heart?

Sorry Ameena and money, the damage resistance applies to even your character's knives too. You don't do any damage there. However, Ameena did score a solid hit, and Falkor at least hit the creature, so you can bet it's choice in which way to move was directly affected by your hits. Sorry Ameena, your instinct was right a while ago (hence why I rolled a level check for you) - no sneak attack damage possible on something that isn't technically alive. That might change rarely if the critical hit would be against a vulnerability - say a weakened leg, etc.

Westian swung too, but the creature was already moving and not where he had expected it to be. It was trying to move out of the burning fire, and away from the pain and pressure of the various attacks behind it. It swung its falchion in a determined swing at the figure - perhaps still expecting it to be the half orc - and then dove sideways.

Westian's club took the brunt of what would have been a decapitating swing, but the turned flat of the blade still smashed deep into the cleric's skull and making his ears ring and his vision tunnel for a moment.

Sorry ob_brother, the logical target of the mummy as it dove was however was closest (or whoever was still in Haynuus's position) so it targetted Westian. 10hp damage in this case, so Westian still stands but looks iffier now!

The mummy managed to avoid the rags at its side, and the sheer weight of it and its frantic movements seemed to quickly smother the flames after one final burst of flame. The thing scrambled up and held its sword infront of it, darting bewtween the combattants. Where Haynuus had attacked the bandaged had started to come apart, and it's badaged smoked in many places. There was the strong smell of charred ancient flesh in the air.

"...noah...gy-ho teh..." it wheezed, it's black eyes seemed darker but no less menacing.

Ok, so the mummy is upright on F3, and is not on fire. But it is in a bad way. How bad I haven't fully calculated yet, because I'm gone way passed my lunchtime :( Map tonight!

You're doing well, but you are all basically one blow away from rolling to avoid death as you might be able to spot by the damage rolls, so be careful!

The mummy was hurt, the pain was clear to see - Falkor felt pleased with himself for helping, but soon his attention would need to turn to healing. For now, he would let the others finish the job and with that retreated back to the last tomb he was inspecting - he hoped that by removing the rubble the shiny object may proove usefull.

Someone was going to fall real soon. It had better be the mommy.

Haynuus realised that he was out of arms reach of the smouldering abomination and regretted that he wasn't where Westian was now. Mistakes were made in times of war and it was always the innocent that suffered most - in this case the side of Westian's once beautifully featured face. The half-elf was still with-it but he looked like his eyes were focussing on the immaterial part of the mommy and not the very material and sharp part that was called a falchion. Perhaps he was incanting a prayer...

The rope uselessly trailed away from Haynuus's mouth to the corner of the room, and there just wasn't enough room to loop it around the back of the mummy to pull it back over the fire. There was not time to make a lassoo, let alone ask someone as to how to spell it. He'd have to do this the hard way, again. He put his full 30' speed to good use and moved through Falkor to the central tomb, down and across to avoid the detritus on the floor, then diagonally back up to exactly behind the mummy (G4) who was possibly facing Westian. If the rope caught fire or snagged on anything such as a Muruffuh then so be it and it would pop harmlessly out of his mouth. Then Haynuus, blessed by an orc's imagination, attempted a two handed swing of the torch between the mummy's legs.

"...noah...gy-ho tehthticles!" he wheezed.

Ameena stares on horror as another of her companions takes a blow from the creature's sword. How can they defeat this thing? Is it even hurt? She hopes so. Otherwise, what hope do they have? Have they all been imprisoned here by some strange creature which is secretly watching them for sport? Some creature, perhaps, that likes watching innocent creatures clain by undead things? She knows that some races have a bizarre liking for the destructino of others, but, like so many aspects of the cultures of other species, she doesn't really understand such thinking.
For now, though, she lunges in desparation at the undead thing, slashing at its legs again and hoping to do whatever puny damage she can hope to do. She knows it's probably futile, and that the thing might well kill her. it might well kill all of them. But at least if it strikes her now she'll be gone quickly, rather than retreating and having to watch the others brought down, leaving her to be slain alone, like no murafu should be.
This thought is just about the only thing remaining in her mind as she attacks the legs of the strange, undead, bandaged creature.
Don't let it kill them all. Please don't let me be left alone. Please, please not alone. Not here. Not like this. I never wanted this. Did I do something wrong to end up here? Whatever it was, I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry but please don't let me be left alone in this place...

OOC - And my attack roll is...13. Can't remember if that gets any bonuses. In case it hits, damage rolls is...bahh, 2...oops no, that's the d6 roll...so, 1 lol. Wooooo...

Blood started to roll down Westian's face, and he staggered one half step backwards. Shock from the impact was apparent in his eyes, and it felt like the outside world was moving in slow motion. The sounds of battle seemed to be coming from a long way away.

Turning slowly to face the mummy Westian swung his club again, but his actions were too slow and disjointed to stand any chance of even reaching the monster.

Ok, just like last time, map when I get home. My understanding is that Haynuus is on G4, Westian and Ameena have remained on E2 and E4 respectively, so Haynuus and Westian get flanking bonuses.

Falkor is on B5, cheking the rubble.

Falkor rushed over to see what item was in the sarcophigus. His determined search proved an item was in the rubble after all, it had not been a trick of the light! The item was tarnished, but was no less impressive for it. The upraised bumbs on it seemed to be some form of crest, once upon a time perhaps an impressive eagler or other bird of prey had been on the item.

It was a small round shield, impressively large to Falkor. It still seemed solid, and the weapon dents on various places had not punctured its thick surfac. It was a cumbersome but useful large shield to Falkor, although the fighters could probably use it with ease.

However, those still gathered around the mummy showed their mettle. They stood up firmly to the creature and spread around evenly to confuse the thing. It staggered, as if caught in a confusion of which member of the party to attack first. Ameena's jab did no damage, and obviously angered the creature. However, it backed off a step. Westian's blow was hampered by his fresh wound, yet distracted the creature.

Haynuus managed to take advantage of the situation and swung. The blow did not feel it connected well, barely ruffling the loosening bandages of the creature, but that did not matter. The flames on the torch again seemed to eagerly leap from the torch. This time they not only danced on the monster, they seemed to be sucked inside the open bandages of the creature.

For the last time, the mummy screamed in agony. Fire seemed to erupt underneath it's wrapping, and there wasa foul stench in the air. It's dark eyes and gaping black maw now blazed as fire shot out from the opening.

The fire seemed unnatural, it burned brightly and quickly reducing the humanoid shape into a blackened shadow that ccrumbled to nohting.

Before those around could comprehend it, the terrible powe4rful threat was nothing but a heap of ash on the floor, not even bandages.

Edit: It was so close (both attacking and damage) that I double checked my calculations, and spotted a single hp damage I missed the first time (if you know how many of those single hp damage bonuses are floating around, you would hopefully forgive the momentary lapse the first time!). No AoO actually needed though if they had been Haynuus would hsve again sneaked a successful hit roll anyway. God bless Westian for his flanking bonus!

Well done Haynuus, you killed the mummy!

Those around blinked for a second, adjusting back to the normal light levels. However, the light was changed. Haynuus knew why - he had pulled the torch away from the creature as it had started to burn, and the flame had gone with the mummy. His magical torch was now unlit, only a tiny glowing shape near the top that was fading from view.

There was an odd quiet filling the air. Only the sound of the natural if laboured breathing of the party was audible.

Much as I would have loved to have carried on that for a few rounds, the dice decreed otherwise - well done!

Haynuus fell to his knees exhausted and to be perfectly honest in need of a big hug.

The torch dropped out of his hand to the floor which landed with a dull thud. He appreciated both it's light and the hope it had given them all. Usually the half-orc was overcome with fatigue and remorse but this time there was no confusion in his head. The effect of the cleric must have been contageous as he felt that he had done the right thing, and there would be no second thoughts as to the outcome of his actions. "Here take the sword" Haynuus offered to the half-elf, unsure as to whether he knew how to use it. There was no finess to Haynuus, and a club was perfectly murderous in his hands.

He winded the rope back up, noticing a little fire damage, and even he realised how stupid he must have looked with all the action occurring and then having a half-orc with a piece of rope dangling out of his mouth and chuckled to himself.

Next was Ameena who was now at his head height and looking intently at him. Concerned? "Thanks for the help" he smiled. "The next one that turns up we all run like mice, ok?"

Finally he turned to the halfling who was already busying himself with his scientific investigations. He opened his mouth but then saw the central tomb and...

Oh god, was that another one? It looked like a mummified leg sticking out of the sarcophagus and Falkor would start sniffing around there real soon.

OOC - Will look at the remains of the mummy if it's all not just dust!

Westian was still in a slight state of shock from everything that had happened. He took the sword from Haynuus wordlessly and stared at it blankly for a minute. Slowly pulling himself back to reality he thanked the half-orc "Well done. It looks like you saved our hides there." He tossed his still burning club onto an empty patch on the floor to let it burn itself out, and wiped away the blood with his hand. His hand came back with a worrying amount of blood on it.

He mumbled a prayer of thanks to the High Lords, but in truth it was not fully heart-felt. They had defeated a mummy, and no one had been killed, and that was certainly something to be thankful for. But he did not know how much of that was thanks to the High Lords; it seemed they had got through solely by their own efforts. This and many other thoughts - including his brush with mortality - were going through Westian's mind, but it was no time for introspection. With a great effort he focused himself on the outside world instead. He felt like collapsing on the floor with a mixture of shock, fatigue and blood loss, but he did not want to be a source of demotivation for the group. He struggled to move as if his injury was not a problem. He had never learned how to staunch the flow of blood from a wound, or how to immobilise a damaged limb. Why bother when it could be healed by magic? Right now he hoped that someone else knew the basics of healing better than him.

Wanting to keep people's spirits up he spoke "My friends, we have done well today! It was not easy, but in the name of all that is good we have all made it through!"

OOC - Ian, since this is my first post since the mummy's death (well, "death", since it was already undead), how would you know whether Ameena is staring at Haynuus or not? You gotta wait and see what she does ;).

BIC - Ameena watches as the fire from the torch incinerates the undead thing from the inside. As the ashes drift down to the floor, she stares at it and, for a moment, feels nothing as the shock of the whole encounter starts to sink in. Then she feels a whole tumult of emotions which all seem to hit her at the same time.
Fear comes, of course. Fear that any of them could have died. Fear of the creature they've just fought. Fear of the thought that there might be more of them. Fear that there might be anything more that will attack them. Fear of this whole horrible place in general, and that she still might lose any of these people who are the closest she has to friends at the moment. And fear that she may be trapped down here for the rest of her life, however long that may be, and never see another murafu again.
Perhaps there is a sense of relief, that the creature can harm them no more and that all of them survived. But it is brief and short-lived, buried beneath the other emotions for now.
She also feels very shaken by the whole encounter. Savage combat, flames, swords, a creature which had no reasoning but apparently only the desire to attack, friends injured, herself feeling more or less powerless to stop it.
In the background, a faint and constant sense of loneliness, a continuation of that which she felt when she realised before that she couldn't remember the names or any particular details about anyone she's been close to before, merging with that which she has started to feel since realising that she might lose all the companions she has here, and end up alone.
In her paw, she still holds the knife. She stares at it. Murafu don't usually fight. They're not an aggressive species. But they will fight to defend friends, if friends are attacked by something which cannot be reasoned with and which attacks without provocation. That was what she did here. The creature attacked. The injury it inflicted upon the half-orc spurred her to action, but she did little good. What good can she do here, she wonders, when most creatures stand towering over her? Even Falkor is a little taller than her. Why is she here?
She vaguely realises that she's been staring at the knife for several seconds without otherwise moving. She stats to put it away, but then drops it and realises she's started trembling slightly. She looks down at it and almost moves to pick it up, then sees the blood on the floor and remembers Haynuus's injury. And Westian's. She wants to help. But she isn't a healer. What little basic knowledge she has would require herbs and other things usually found locally to murafu settlements. So she can't help them. She can't do anything.
She sort of slumps back onto her haunches and puts her head in her forepaws. She almost expects other murafu to come forward and comfort her, simply by sitting next to her, by being there. But then she remembers that there are no other murafu here. She might never see one again. True enough, she's gone without seeing another of her kind for periods much longer than this before, but all those times she knew she'd see one again, perhaps in the town of another species or along a path or road, or any number of other places. Down here, though...
Down here, will she ever even see the Sun again?

The group sat around, assimilating their victory and the cost of it, light though that was. Westian's head wound had stopped bleeding. Falkor assessed him as best he could, checking to ensure Westian's balance and vision were alright. It seemed the cleric had been nimble enough in combat to roll with the blow. The headache might remain, but the sick feeling and tunneling of vision had passed quickly enough.

Haynuus had already punched a fist into the wound, a tried and tested way to intimidate the wound into not bleeding anymore. To be fair, it was working well. The cut had not been as deep, nor as central, as feared. Blood always looked more than it was. Some light dressing was used and the wound even stopped seeping. At least, for now, Haynuus really needed to take it easy incase he stressed the wound again. Haynuus had insisted on using scraps of his own clothes for bandages, as the germs he carried would be tougher than the germs on the bandages, and would be able to fight the injury better.

Haynuus has scrambled in the ashes of the fallen creature, and had found the circlet that the thing had worn around its head. It was blackened and tarnished, and was uncomfortably warm in his hand for a while. what had been the front was just a thin circlet of metal - gold perhaps. There might have been a design, but it was faded and blurred together now. At the back, unseen, a small tag of metal came off the band making a wide space for a crest. It was hard to tell, it seemed to be some form of bird like a hawk splayed out, with some strange design on its chest. The item would fit Haynuus, or Westian for that matter, but Haynuus tried to pass it to Ameena to allow her nose to judge it.

Falkor had found the broken sword and the intact shield with the similar crests, and Ameena had found what turned out to be the front of some armour, just a tarnished breatsplate. The crest was much easier to spot on this, although an unfortunate oblong hole in the centre again obscured the body of the bird.

All in all, not much for now to show for such a battle, Still, they had not explored fully yet. And besides, being alive was the greatest reward.

The weapon the mummy used was a Falchion (weeee). It actually seems in decent condition. In D&D the falchion is actually a two handed weapon, and will be too cumbersome for the smaller members of the group to use. The shield is a small shield to Westian and Haynuus, and a large shield to Falkor and Ameena. The armour Ameena found was a breastplate front suitable for Westian and Haynuus. The armour seems to be in less good condition. The broken sword is unusable as a weapon, but feel free to take it. Similarly, decide what you want to do with the circlet.

Note that armour and shields have associated what is known as an Armour Check Penalty (ACP). This is a penalty that is applied to your Athletics (double when swimming), Acrobatics, Stealth and Sleight of Hand rolls due to the restrictions of the item. Armour also can affect the maximum dexterity bonus you can apply to your Armour Class, although will only be a concern for the highest armours. Heavier armours also slow you down.

If you aren't proficient with a weapon you take a -4 hit roll penalty on using it. If you aren't proficient with armour, you take the armour check penalty on ALL strength and dexterity based checks, including attack rolls.

Falchion: 2d4 damage (2 handed), slashing weapon. Max damage on an 18-20 (assuming you hit)
Shield: +1AC -1ACP for the big guys, +2AC but -2ACP for the little guys.
Breastplate: No back, so doesn't weight you down, but only +3AC and -4ACP.

Oops, and what I should have also asked was if everyone can roll a d20 perception check please for their rest? And Falkor, can you roll a Heal check? This is not directly for bandaging up Haynuus and Westian

Falkor felt a rush of relief pass over him, the mummy was dead - or at least there was nothing left of the threat that had been so real just moments earlier. He was excited by the small shield that he had found, perhaps the remaining tombs would have other weapons or armour - all of which could be of use in their next battle... as he thought about that, he realised that this had been a tough battle and that Westian and Haynuus had been injured by just one monster, what if there had been a room full of them - they had better be more prepared in future!

Falkor moved across to Westian and Haynuus and using the clean looking bandages he had picked up earlier he offered them to each of them in an attempt to aide with the healing process. Neither of them looked too severely hurt (at least not life threatening) but the quicker they were up and back on their feet ready for battle the better.

Whilst attending to the their wounds he also spoke of the shield... "There is a sheild in the tomb", Falkor pointed to the broken tomb, "It's small but it might be usefull in our next encounter - I think as you two are leading the battles at the moment that it might be of best use in your hands for now, at least untill we find something more suitable". And with this Falkor stepped to his feet and moved back down the hall onto the next tomb that he wished to investigate - carefully he looked into the tomb.

Falkor seemed to know what he was doing as he wrapped bandages around the wound, and slowly Westian felt like he was getting back to himself. "Thanks for the help, Falkor". He stood to his feet and after a moment of dizziness he was able to walk around as before. "Lord Larethian, by your grace take some of these wounds onto yourself, to allow me to better serve you".

Walking over to Haynuus, who seemed to be quite fascinated by the seeping wound in his side, he spoke again. "Without knowledge of runes, and without a container, I cannot perform true healing, but if you will let me I will say a prayer for you." Not waiting for the half-orc's responce Westian began "Lord Larethian, this man is a warrior who wades through blood in search of gold, but he fights in your name even if he does not know it. Please look kindly on him, and help him bear the wounds he has taken in the destruction of evil."

With those simple prayers said Westian walked towards the doors to examine them. He wanted to see if there was a choice of paths open before them, or if one or both were sealed. More importantly, he had no wish to be surprised by another creature interrupting their searches.

Falkor walked across the hall to resume his search as he had been conducting, now a less rushed affair with the mummy gone. The tomb to the left of the door was strange. The other damaged tombs he had noted so far across the hall all seemed to have their lids and sometimes other parts of the sarcophigus smashed outwards. With this one, the damage was all internal. It was as if on all the others, something had broken out, while on this one, something had tried to break in. Given this tomb would surely have possessed a mummy inside, that would not have ben the smartest idea.

It was hard work to shift the detritus of the tomb, and did not seem to be worth the effort. Whatever had damaged the tomb had also damaged the contents, and there was a some obvious rusted shards of some bladed weapons - perhaps an axe - and smashed slivers of a wooden haft.

The next tomb along was back to the motif of the lid and part of the side smashed outwards. Inside this one Falkor found what would be a short sword to the occupant, but was a sword as far as Falkor was concenred. The blade was slightly blunt, and there was tarnish on the blade and the guard, but it was at least not broken.

Again the short sword had a crest on the hilt, and again age had obscured part of it. On a whim Falkor looked at the lid as part of his search, incase anything was under it. The crest similar to everything around was still mostly visible on a chunk, and Falkor's eyes widened. He felt nauseated, but that was ok. The central design on the hawk's chest was a reflected shape, and the right hand side he sudden;y recognised. It was the symbol for flight - IR.

I was going to ask you to roll a knowledge check, but realised you alreayd had a roll for perception that's not being used, so used that. So yeah, there you go - you know IR. Woohoo! I'll stat the short sword/sword later when you decide who gets it :)

Westian examined the two sets of doors, to ensure they were actually in a safe place. He could still easily see with his elvish sight, as long as Falkor stayed reasonably close to this side of the hall. The first door - the one that the mummy had been pawing at - seemed locked. There were no visible signs of lifting the door, instead a keyhole set in a simple raised area of brick was to the left of it. The keyhole has an odd design etched around it, small lines radiating outwards from it in a familiar pattern.

Westian, roll me a knowledge (religeon) check please!

The door itself was a solid wooden affair. It showed no signs of damage, unlike the tombs around nor the wall close to the stairs. Westian listened diligently at the door, placing his ear to it. Haynuus had been speaking words earlier, but had stopped thankfully and Westian had peace to try and hear. However, either the door was very thick, or there was simply nothing beyond making noise. Westian checked the bottom of the door, but it seemed to be a very snug fit to the stones. It would appear the door raised and lowered into the roof as others did.

Westian then moved to the other doors closer to the stairs and directly beside the tomb. These doors were odd. They were made of wood, but had been smoothed to a finish that blended the planks together to the eye. They had been painted black unless there was a type of wood that had such a naturally darkened hue.

The doors were simple double doors - quite large - that would obviously swing open if pushed. They did not appear locked, a small handle in their centre. What struck Westian more than the oddness of the doors though, was the feeling he got standing close to them. In what seemed a while ago, when there had been the eplosion at the stone doors above, Westian had felt such the prescence of evil. Now, standing at the doors, Westian could feel the opposite. It was generating an odd reassurance and calm in him - as if what was beyond was innately good.

There was absolutely no sounds beyond the doors. These doors did not fit quite as snugly, being attached to the wall and not recessed into them like the other door. Westian was sure if something was moving, he could have heard it when he got closer to the crack at the bottom, or listened at the hairline crack at the join of the doors. Of course, it also meant if there were anything beyond would have heard them easily before.

Haynuus had felt an odd surge of enegy after the combat, despite his wound whihc Falkor had dealt with well. And the priest's funny words had made him feel stragely reassured too. Haynuus had walked roughly in the direction of those two rather than keep the murafu company, mostly because he had been worried about he central tomb.

What Haynuus had thought might be a leg turned out to be a shadow, and what he hoped might be a tomb filled with items of interest - perhaps treassure - turned out to be an empty tomb filled with...shadow. Still, at least it was not filled with any more mummy.

Haynuus looked around to see what the group were doing, and then started to read from the tomb lid. Well, read some of the words he could make out, anyway.

"Here...lies...Ka...Ka...loo...ka? Low...lord...of...Vi...bo...Vi-something? Found...ing...rul..ler. Twi..sted...by..by...cows? Lay...d...here...to...find...peas...wonky...more."

There were some smaller words written, but Haynuus had already broken a sweat, and so settled back to watching what the others were doing in the various corners of the room.

Sorry for using your charatcer Ian, couldn't resist. I can change it if it's not in character or you can redo that part.

As Ameena busied herself, she very gradually realised there was an odd sound in her ears. It was very, very faint, but felt like a human voice. Perhaps even a female voice. It seemed as if the voice were reciting something, or singing something, as there was an odd rise and fall to the voice.

Ok, so Westian and Falkor are sorta in step timewise, obviously Ameena and Haynuus's actions at this time are a little nebulous. If Westian wants to open the doors then everyone can react to that aswell, if Westian will leave them for now until the hall is finished being scoured, then just nominate an order for searching the hall first and we can update everyone that way aswell.

Hmm, I swear I got up early and had lots of time, now I have two minutes to get out and I haven't gotten ready yet. Not good! Next update this evening!

Ameena looks up from her position on the floor and sees what the others are doing. Falkor is using the bandages he found in order to patch up the other two, both of whom don't seem to be in that bad a shape. Ameena herself experiences a brief, odd sort of sensation, as though remembering something she'd forgotten. It's as though she suddenly feels more alert, more agile, without having actually physically changed. Very odd, she thinks.
Howevver, any thoughts of herself are put aside at the sight of the others recovering. Everyone seems to be fine, and even now are beginning to explore the room, though with little interaction between them. Wondering whether she can change that, Ameena then remembers the large metal object she'd found inside the stone container. She runs over to the rubble, reaches in, and tugs at the object. It comes loose, sort of, though it is partially obscured beneath the debris.
She looks toward the others.
"I found something here." she calls. "Maybe it's metal-clothes. Arm-ur. I can't tell..."
Deciding that whatever it is, it won't be of any use to her, she leaves it for one of the others to investigate - it smells safe enough. Then she proceeds to do her usual inspection of the room, sniffing carefully inside all of the stone containers. Moving away from the torchlight doesn't bother her now, since her nose, whiskers, and ears guide her just fine and she knows that nothing else is waiting to leap out from the shadows.
She thinks back over what she knows of places like this. She's been near a couple, in the relatively short time she's been out wandering the world. And she's heard things about them from other people. Something about strange traditions some people have, wherein they for some reason put their dead inside boxes of wood or stone, and seal them away in rooms like this one. How can they feed the earth, the trees, the insects and so on, when they're surrounded by stone?
Putting aside the strange nature of other species for now, Ameena thinks over what else she knows. Sometimes people seal their dead away with things they owned when they were alive. Again, this is something Ameena has never understood - if the person is dead, their body is empty, and their mind and spirit have gone and have probably taken on forms of their own in whatever place the person believed they would end up (Ameena has heard multiple theories on that as well). So how can they have any desire for the physical possessions they had when still within their bodies?
Nevertheless, some people seem to think it's important for the dead to be surrounded by such items. And the shiny stones and metals that they value so highly - the things they call coyns. Munneh. She isn't sure what the difference is between "coyns" and "munneh", but she knows that people use them to exchange for pretty much everything - clothing, food, weapons. She's seen them do so in towns and other such places.
But why is that significant? Ah, yes - because they place such a high value on theese shiny things that can be exchanged for, apparently, anything. So when they put their dead in stone with them, they want the precious items to be guarded. Protected. So no-one steals it. Stealing something from someone who doesn't even need the thing that's being stolen, or even know it's there, continues to baffle the murafu, but the thought does help her remember what she's heard.
People sometimes protect their treasures with traps. Hidden mechanisms that, if triggered by someone, can hurt them or even kill them. And where she is now, this place of death-in-stone, might be exactly the kind of place which holds such traps. She resolves to explore even more carefully, just in case.
As she explores, intent on missing nothing, her ears detect a strange sound. It is very faint, but it sounds like someone...singing? She can't quite tell, though she continues to swivel her ears around to try and pinpoint a direction.

OOC - There we go, obviously taking 20 to sniff around the whole room as much as possible. Every sarcophagus, the doors, the rubble in the corner near the stairs. Even the floor, just in case there's a hidden trigger or something. If you need another roll for the posisble detection of traps, let me know. Also trying to discern a direction from which the voice thingy is coming. Obviously, this post is designed to overlap the previous ones, so it follows on from immediately after my previous post, and takes in what everyone else has been doing too.
