Ah yes, there was a bug with the ants. Fixed for next version.
For the lich, I toned her down. This incarnation can be normally killed by the way.
Oh and I'm working on a cool crowd control mechanism in the sewers. It just needs optimization before the next release.

Indeed, but getting corners means you get autostruck all the time, blinded pretty quickly, and then that's it. You don't know when to swap aroudn your spells and weapons to deal with each threat, and so it was just blindly attack and push forward. And eventually die. Certainly, facing her when you can move aroudn that hall is cool - just facing her in a crowd is less fun
And oooooooooooooooooooooooooh to crowd control
Edit: Oh, and you never said - can Death die?

No. But Death is useful. It's part of a cycle.
For the lich, I'd need to test it with a true party, not a test character, to measure better the difficulty. The point was
more to scare than to annoy
. Do you have a savegame before reaching the dwarven fortress with the powergem?

there are things I like about csbwin and things I don't like so much. Right now I am a hater. I went to load my saved games from yesterday 4 hrs of play. They are nowhere to be found. Do I actually have to configure something? How do I find my lost saves???

the savegames are named csbgame.dat, csbgame2.dat, etc. and should be in the files directory. Are they missing?
You did save and you did press resume at the entrance, yes?
You can reproduce your last sequences of play with the logs that are in the log directory, by the way. But it would be simpler to find your savegame.

If they are missing, you are probably running the wrong CSBwin.exe. Make sure you are running the excecutable from the directory where your saves are. I've done this once with conflux, where I ran another copy and wondered why the four slots were blank.

Are you using Vista? Is your game installed
in "Program Files"? If so, Vista has hidden your
save games for you. A Micro$oft feature, not CSBwin.

Odd. The only time the darkness spell came into effect with me is when I met her where you earn a challenge point for doing so. Although, I did have the game crash each time I met her with the powergem which may have happened when the darkness was supposed to take effect. When the problem was fixed and I could battle her (I couldn't actually in her court with her minions, I had to
Lightning a path to the gem slot and enter the room where they couldn't enter
) and she still never cast it during our battle. When I get to this part with the cursed guild, I'll utilize my old trick.

She doesn't cast it as a spell, just like the main confrontation it seems to occur as she hits you with her blade, which she does pretty fast. So you are ok as long as she doens't engage you, but once she does, if there is still a press of creatures, it rapidly becomes pitch black. Like I said, it was just because of the mix of minions - non-corporeal, skeletal and normal minions all have their weakness, so I basically die trying to figure out which was blocking me. Bad enough trying to get to a clear area, but if you are wasting all your hit points and mana using the wrong attacks, you tend to die. Obviously if you can get to the stairs, etc you are fine, but its just in that first push - I pushed ot hard the first time, and was swamped

Huh, I think I broke the game
There is a constant sounding of the lightening bolt, and I cannot summon zokathra nor actually get the contents of any purses I empty! Sounds liek a DSA stuck in the wrong state, or something equally weird. Wasn't playing with the sound on for a while, so missed the lightning noise. Hasn't been going on too long - I solved solune's little area fine, then when I came back at the end of it to use coins, etc on the shop, I noticed things going wrong

Lol, firstly - CONGRATULATIONS!
Secondly, I think we both know which is the more important one...so I won't send the game, for fear of creating a distraction!

Zyx, I am a newby . I can't seem to get very far in this game. I have been playing for hours every day and still get killed with one hit from anything. as a matter of fact, the only place I have any luck is killing rats. I can't build up casting power, except for gando. and he is WEAK. So I can't cast anything but a weak acid or oh ven that stops no one. My weapons (Maces and a simitar and a vorpal blade are all too weak to stand up agaisnt anyone but the rats. I just can't find an area to build up any skills. My party is the starting party of gando, iodo the ninja dude, with leif and zed in the front row. It's too arcane. I read the forum and you guys are talking about truth spells and things like that . I have no idea what use a truth spell would ever have in killing an enemy? Is there a list of useful starter spells? The scroll system lacks continuity. I must think too linearally for this game. I get about 45 minutes in and give up. I guess I am not smart enough to play this game. I am going back to tower of champions. If I could get the strength to survive more than a couple hits, I might stand a chance in beating some of these critters. I am pretty good at the 4 square fights, but these foes are too strong. It takes me 50 hits and I can't survive more than 2. What am I doing wrong?? I am frustrated. really. Jump in anywhere in this forum. do any search such as spell casting. see how non helpful it is. I read about 25 pages. ouch. There must be something I am missing. I am the only one not getting it.

If you keep playing the same start of the game, and then restart, you aren't building up your skills. Rats die in one hit, except for the mother rat that gifts you another mace.
Spellcasting is limited at the start, with some of the default powerful spells you blast the dungeon with temporarily taken away until later. Spells like
YA VEN
are doing damage, but unlike fireball aren't going to be the easy kills.
I'm not sure what truth spell you mean, there is a spell for that but you can't get it at the start and don't need to use it.
A helpful idea:
Go into the storeroom level first. There are four screamers to kill, then you can get the rope (note the pad outside the door...) and then note if you press the fountain you get a sneaky way into the cellar level. There is a giant rat close to fight, BUT you can pull it back to a four square room. You can then investigate the celler, and pull back to a safe area if needed. Find the alcove for the quest for the holy flask. The items are found upstairs from the cellar.
Why do the spell system lack continuity? I think the runes are redefinied in one of the documents, and I'm sure any that have now changed follow the new logic.

Oh wait, just realised you've actually played further and got far. Have you actually gone upstairs though? Have you actually got guild items to unlock the guild, then opened the guild so your skills advance?
The vorpal blade gives a mana boost. Casting ya without a flask still gives levels, and then light spells should still build up caster levels. Have you randomly cast ZO spell just because it seems to work? If you did, since it's now linked to death, you probably cursed all your current weapons so they do less damage?

I definitely cast the zo spell several times to see if it would work. That is probably exactly what I did. Do I have to restart or will they come back??

You can go to the temple and ask the high priest for a blessing. Or you can try using other weapons that are not cursed.

You may as well use the cursed mace to open the fighter guild further then
At a certain priest levenl, you should see the bad things that happen to your stuff. Cursed or broken. Cursed can be cured in the temple, for broken you need to find the dwarf forge. And then, more importantly, actually get into it

In the room of illusions there is a door I can't get open
not the one that is an illusion
. Is there a way to open it? Unfortunately, the save I have keeps crashing so I won't be back there any time soon unless I load a much earlier game. Just wan't to know for future reference.

I've just started Conflux III and I have two questions about the starting level (where the four guilds are)
1) Where you drop down from above to the first level (and a whole heap of boulders, rocks and torches fall down with you) there is a black square on the wall that sort of looks like stars in the sky at night with a silhouette of some mountains. After you get your party and come back here you hear a sound like a cricket chirping. What's that about? Is it a window and you are looking outside?
2) There are some stairs that, when you stand at the top of them, the text at the bottom says:
"Foul smells and vapors of moisters brisk from these deep stairs."
Just to the right of that is a stone wall with a brick in the middle with a design on it. I think the design looks like the head of a T-Rex myself but it is probably something else. You can actually
click on that head
and you
hear the click of a button
It is a toggle button as you can click it many times.
I haven't worked out
what the button is for, if anything.
I've already wandered around the cellar level and storage level.
Thanks.

1) yes
2) I think it's useful later. I'll check. Edit: yes, it's useful later.
I'm still trying to see the T rex!

It's the elevator trigger, activated once you complete the mines.

Thanks for both replies. I now know to ignore the elevator trigger for the time being as I am nowhere near the mines. (I once played Conflux I significantly and vaguely remember where the mines were; nowhere near where I am now, basically). The changes made between Conflux I and III are quite staggering. (I skipped Conflux II)

Is there a trick to finding the Zo Liqueur? All of those Sar Wines but I can't find the Zo Liqueur. Is it hidden somewhere in the wine cellar? i.e. In a different place to all of the Sar Wines, (which are just everywhere, inside alcoves)

One of the many many bottles in the wine cellar is the Zo Liqueur. You have to be persistent in this one.

YOu don't have to examine them, just pick them up and see the basic item name
While you do that, you should find both a key and a coin and get a staff

Thanks. I was expecting it to look different than the others but it was only
slightly different when you picked it up.
I've now got the flask as a result, which is quite helpful. I'm ready to go down to the monastry now.

Ive been playing conflux 3.5 for a while now, and I have a couple things to ask about / comment on.
Just FYI, I have Iaido, Lor, Gothmog and Mophus.
1) Whenever Vecna attacks me, I get a DSA crash.
2) Somehow, a teleporter activated in the guilds area, in front of the fountain. I saved before going in, and I can't get out. I just want to get all of my equipment back that I had dropped there.
3) How do I get into the
Chamber of Oblivion at the back of Inferno, where it says "Bring Hell with you"? I've tried Gothmog's staff(charged and uncharged), the Gaze of Fate emerald, and a Sar shield. I'm thinking about trying a fiery cerebrus and unleashing hell
.
4) What is up with that
Gaze of Fate emerald
? I saved before using it, so I am fine, but how would I
get my character back
? And, what does the
"strong curse" do when I just look at it?
5) I have managed to find all of the pieces of the Darc armor but the greaves, where would those be?
