Omg what have you done to me lol...tried Wuuffy's sugestion of replacing just the RL anf FL and had I think the same errors...also it didn't even give me an "RTC file not created" thing, it just bomed and gave a Diags file. I tried Gambit's approach and...

You definitely have something wrong in your file BEFORE the wallset errors. Bear in mind what Beowuuf said -- that one tiny error can have a knock on effect and cause the whole file to go out of synch and generate hundreds of errors.

Send me your file, and I'll take a look.

Okay just sent it. Thanks in advance :)

Very, very, odd.

It wouldn't compile at all, and didn't generate any of the errors you have posted, and bombed to the desktop. I had a quick look at it, and the only way that I can get into play the dungeon is if I remove all the cloned GENERIC_MONSTERS from the map. It won't save the RTC file though.

However, if I also delete the definition for the GENERIC_MONSTER, the game bombs out straightaway.

I have no idea what is causing this -- I couldn't see anything obvious in the file. I will forward it to George and see if he can work out what is wrong.

Ameena wrote:"NAME=(WALLSET_DEFAULT) " not supported. Expecting string of form NAME=(xxxx).
There is a space at the very end of the default wallset definition above - maybe that is the reason for a lot of the trouble coming afterwards since the non-existing proper definition seems to cause most of the other wallset problems.

Ah, I didn't notice that! What a star -- it also explains why I don't get any errors at all as I used a corrected version of it taken from the DM.TXT file.

No matter, this file still bombs to the desktop on startup, even with that error corrected. I have sent it to George.

Spooooooooky...don't know why I get so many errors...other people seem to have created dungeons that work okay...maybe RTC just doesn't like me or something hehe. Hmm...I wonder if it'll still bomb at that Scorpion bit if anyone can get it to work again...
Btw thankies Gammy for checking it out, hope GG can do something about it, it's being a right pain :P.
When it bombs, as well as errors in the error log (which I hardly need send again lol), I get a Diags file which reads...

RTC (V0.28) Diagnostic file - Mon Jan 05 17:29:28 2004

Error:
an access violation exception.

Stack Dump:
RTC.InitSecondary();
RTC.DoFrame(int 7);
RTC.WinMain();

Also I get a file called "Error" which is probably only created as a kind of default thing or something, as all it says is...

RTC V0.28 Error Log
Starts: Mon Jan 05 17:29:15 2004

--------------------------------

------------------------------
Summary

Critical Errors: 0
Warnings : 0

------------------------------
Ends: Mon Jan 05 17:29:25 2004

Oh well, I hope someone can pin this stoopid thing down and make my dungeon work, then I can fix it and carry on creating the last couple of levels. Then I'll playtest it with the uber character I made (muahahaha), and I'll edit him so he's not uber and send it to my friend so she can have a go. I'm sure I'll need to play around with stats and stuff so they're all roughly balanced - it's pretty shyte atm I think lol. But sod that for now, better get the file working first lol.

Ameena... I get exactly the same error message when compiling a small test dungeon. I sent the file and diagnostics to George (no answer yet, but it'll come) - so you might want to wait for that (I'll post it here then) before trying other tricks ;o)

George said my problem, which generated the same error, was fixed for v0.29 - that was i had clones defined that weren't then used in the dungeon, and so it didn't compile right. But the quick fix for now was to get rid of them

does that help anyone?

I did not use any clones. I was working on testing how the experience levels worked, so I took the first original level from DM and built a very small are in level two as a training place. Somewhere else in that level I placed Chaos to see if it would affect the experience gain. That was all, actually...

It's something else besides the clones because I deleted all Ameena's clone references and it still crashed while trying to compile...

I made a mess-around dungeon with one of every single type of mob in it, including a clone, and it worked fine - compiled with no errors or anything. Then I went and blew everything up, muahahahhaa :D
So I have no clue what's making my dungeon smeg up, but maybe I made some kind of typo somewhere...dunno...

this is what those editors will be for.. to prevent this sort of thing :)

Hi Ameena, Gambit kindly forwarded your dungeon text file to me and I've managed to work out what's going wrong. The problem is caused by the teleporter at 0,14,5 that is not operated by anything. I think you just need to change the OPBY=(NULL) statement to be OPBY=(PARTY) and it should all just work.

Clearly there is also a bug in RTC, which I've now fixed for V0.29. Just in case anyone sees anything similar until that's released the full set of similar problems is:

- Wall Triggers with invalid or NULL opby
- Floor Triggers with invalid or NULL opby
- Teleporters with invalid or NULL opby
- Shooters with invalid or NULL thing to shoot
- Monster generators with invalid or NULL monster

Aha, woo! Thanks GG :D. Though I can't fix it now because I'm at college and thus have no access to my dungeon file :(. But I will do it when I get home, and post bit cheerings and stuff and be very happy hehe. Can't think what teleporter that might be though...I think level five was the last one I did...hmm...oh well, at least the Editor makes these things clear :).

It was one of the teleporters in the room full of teleporters (a la Western room in "Treasure Stores" from DM). All the other Teleporters are set to operate on the party, but that one wasn't...

i noticed that the default creation in the editor was 'null' - could it maybe be 'all' just incase of mential lapses, at least teleporters and switches are activated by something!

Ahh, yeah, I know the room you mean...I thought I'd checked 'em all, but apparently not...okay I'll have a look. I seem to remember my file buggering up before I did that bit, but I'm not sure. I'll find and change that little mistake tonight and post here to say whether it compiles or not.

Hmm. Since I did not get any reply so far and can not remember any settings as described above, could you let me know if you had a peek at my file, George?

Yes I did, but I havn't beeen able to replicate any of the problems you've seen. I can load up the game and import characters from the save without any problem at all; even on a fresh V0l28 install.

I'll have another look and try to figure out what the problem is though...

Thank you. I did not change anything on the installation of V0.28, only the movement keys in the config file. Maybe another problem with system environment like I have with andyboy's editor?

Right, I finally managed to get on the computer and try and sort out my dungeon. I found the teleporter which I'd missed giving an OPBY, and sorted that. However, after entering the compile command into the config file and trying to load RTC, once again I got kicked to desktop :x.
The following Diags file appeared...

----------------
RTC (V0.28) Diagnostic file - Mon Jan 12 18:34:36 2004

Error:
an access violation exception.

Stack Dump:
RTC.InitSecondary();
RTC.DoFrame(int 7);
RTC.WinMain();

-------------------------------

BUT...apart from being kicked to desktop and having this error, I also just thought of replacing that graphics wallset crap again, and pasted over that of my dungeon with that of The Zoo. I dunno whether it was my doing that or sorting that smegged teleporter, but I now have ZERO errors in the Log file!! Woohoo!!! :D :D :D.
Now, what is this other error I am getting lol.

Are all the bitmaps you are adding in the right places to be loaded in? Could be its trying to draw an image that cant be found at the memory address it is expecting?

Nah, shouldn't be that either. The test dungeon I had did not use any additional new bitmaps, monsters, weapons or any other objects. Got the same error message as Ameena and I started to work from the original DM dungeon...

Surely if there was some error like that, I'd get something in the error log file? But I have none now...must be some other kind of bug which makes it crash - I don't even get the countdown message, it just comes up with the title screen and "Loading Bitmaps..." etc messages in the corner, then "Loading Dungeon...", then the screen goes black, then I pop to desktop with an error message. And of course that Diags file appears in the DM folder
Arse :P.

Exactly the same from my side. 0 errors, 0 warnings and when loading the game it crashed without comment. George is looking into it he said :P

Ahh okies, just wondered...I know GG is busy and all, and I know this latest problem we're both having only appeared recently...but I still wanna get on with my dungeon which I probably started last August or something, and it's kinda frustrating not being able to do so...but yeah, I know GG has loads of projects and dungeons and programmes and stuff to be geting on with as well as trying to sort out all our little problems hehe :).
Just didn't really want this thread getting buried and forgotten with no progress updates is all :).
