I think that a long time ago I read about FTL-DM/CSB, that different monsters perceive the party with different senses like hearing or seeing or combination of it with individual ranges for every type of monster (that's where the darkness spell is supposed to be useful) (also they would cross an illusionary wall only, after the party did so within sight of the monster). So monsters did not wander around the entire dungeon but reacted after they perceived the approach of the party. I do not know to what detail this is true.
How is this in RTC? Monsters seem to wander the dungeons unrestricted and react to the party within line of sight with unlimited range, even if a solid door blocks the line of sight.
And how is this supposed to be in future RTC versions?

Re: Monster senses
I even think I've read in some hint book, that worms have a seismic sense, reacting to movement.
