Magic Map (v0.06)
Actually, not a bug this one. I just wanted to say how cool the MM is - it seems perfect, and that's cool considering that you'd never even seen the thing working before you coded it! Cheers...

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
The magical map is cool - could you possibly put in a scroll with the testmap level that says the spells for the MM?
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
Do you not know the spells?
OH GOR DAIN: Shows all magic moving on the map
OH GOR KU: Monster radar
OH GOR ROS: Thief's eye - shows all illusion walls and invisible pits
ZO IR NETA: Priest's Path - allows you to anchor the map at the point of casting, to explore other areas and the see the effect of switches, etc.
Hope that helps.

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
I worked out the first three because someone (maybe you!) had mentioned the map spells used gor, but didn't know the fourth.
Which reminds me, could an old whine be finally put to rest, and some form of FUL bomb spell be included? Maybe based on what people remember, using a VEN (a MON VEN to create some balance?) bomb in hand, you can create a FUL bomb from it. Just the whole gor/csb thing put it in my mind...

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
From the runes such a spell would have to be
FUL GOR (RA) or
FUL BRO (RA)
If spells are to be limited by finding the relevant scroll then I can include this in the code, but not to be present in DM? I'm not convinced about turning one object into another though... <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub50.ezboard.com/ugeorgegilbert ... =EN>George Gilbert</A> at: 3/2/01 3:56:44 pm

Ful Bombs <ot>
I really don't understand why anyone wants to make Ful bombs. I mean, we all know how to cast fireballs, and if you COULD make a bomb, you lose the flask. The only point of it is to bottle it up for future use, perhaps a large battle, but that can upset the balance of gameplay. Same goes for Ven bombs too - I never made any of my own, just used the ones in the dungeon.
Personally, I always like the fact that it was one of those unknows about DM, as it left an air of mystery....

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
Whoops - sorry George. The map does have one tiny bug - ZoKathRa ALWAYS shows up - they should only show when you've cast OH GOR DAIN.
A couple of suggestions about the magic map too: Perhaps thrown objects could be shown when OH GOR ROS is cast? Also, does it make sense that the light level for the magic map could match the light level of the dungeon? If so (assuming that it's not magical enough to show the party everything regardless of light level) then would that be a good feature to implement? Hmmm...

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
From a gameplay point of view i think there's nothing wrong with being able to use the map to naviagte around with tin the dark, and from a programming point of view would it be a pain to put the same lighting effect over the map only?
I vote no, but maybe i'd be the only one...

Re: Magic Map (v0.06)
If you can't use the magic map in the dark, then I'd also vote that you can't use any other item in your inventory in the dark and you shouldn't be able to see to move stuff about in your back-pack (including being able to find new torches!).
As this would have a negative effect on the gameplay, then I'm inclined to leave it as it is and just shut mu eyes and click the mouse buttons randomly when I want extra realism...
