Playing high settings

Post by beowuuf »

I'm playing on 12 from scratch, and 2 things are a little off (open to debate)

a) Stamm, who used to be fairly sturdy, is the woosiest party member...in a party of gando, mophus, hawk (who is fairly good) and stamm, stamm was consistently losing stamina the most, so i had to rest him every two seconds and give him only a sword
b) damage limitation is a little severe? Doing 1 or 2 damage a pop means i had to walk back to doors, stairs and so on because the creatures last too long
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

actually, playing with a starting party on 12, i shouldn't complain about the 1 - 2 damage, as it does say 15 is archmaster only kinda deal

Quite - I have little sympathy for those who find it difficult when playing on high settings ;-)

I'll look into fiddling about with the relative scalings though so it's more even across the stats.

I was being a bit whiny, i'm actually having emense fun with the 12/6...having to earn ever thing like stable stamina, offensive spells, etc is ..a little tough

The only thing that was a little off are the initial Stamm thing -otherwise i'll play the whole thing through then make less snappy comments ; )

Actually I'm somewhat impressed that you can get anywhere playing at that level. Level 12 introduces a factor 5ish correction to all stats (monsters do 5x as much damage, your stats heal at 1/5 of the normal rate etc); at that power the top monsters will cause c.1000 health points of damage per hit enough to *always* kill you in a single blow...

...and just in case that wasn't enough, you've got 7 times as many monsters to deal with.

Have fun with the golems...

Actually, the door damage is universally applied, so monsters take 30+ damage too, which helps - i don't know if door damage should maybe be given it's own type - 'blunt door' - and the resistance of creatures to this is upped in higher settings? Then again, it's the only help in a merciless setting for a fresh party : )

Plus the poison dart spell, while working perfectly against the party, is still doing damage to all monsters on a square, making it like a mini fireball (better, since trolins are very susceptible)

It's still challenging though..man coatyls are deadly at this setting

Hmm, i think the healing of stats is highlighting how fast high stamina/man are restoring ...I'm noticing no apopreciable stamina loss, and mana is always restoring fast enbough to take on people (it's anout 60 - 70 for the higher guys)
Maybe some form of log healing..so higher stats don't recover swifter?
