V.1.5 not working

Help! previous versions ran fine - last was v.1.3 as I recall. I recently upgraded to the latest and, when I go to play the game - ie clicking on the RTC icon - I hear a 'ping!' and the screen goes black - nothing.
Any ideas what's wrong? Can I reinstall an earlier version?

I think someone else had the same problem, you need to check your config file for the game to make sure the resolution and color depth are correct for your system. It may be best to set them equal to what you currently use on your desktop.

It doesn't work in a 16-bit display - you need 24 or 32 bit. Check that your system is setup for that.

It should work in a 16 bit display (or at least it does on my box).

You'll need to alter your config file - the line with 640x480x24 in it must be changed to either:

a) a mode combination that your graphics card supports (probably 640x480x16 or 640x400x16)

or

b) AUTO

putting AUTO in that line will get the engine to look through the list of available modes and select which one would be most appropriate.

If the AUTO fails, let me know - it'll be a bug as it should Just Work (tm).

Strange - I'm sure I haven't been able to get it to work on 16-bit. I'd better check that again!

On mine it loads up on a 16 bit res, but some of the graphics were a little weird (occasionally a cetrain colour would be turned pink or green so there were ofdd highlights

guess it depends on the card for 16-bit

oh, and this was thee screen being on 16 bit but the cofig being set to auto, or soemthing else like 24 instead

George, could you actually have the config file start up with auto?

The previous version (0.14) did have it auto detect by default but there were several complaints that it wasn't detecting properly...it seems I can't win ;-)

I'll probably leave it as it is but put a more helpful error message up (and get it to be displayed!).
