Spellcasters range is too big

I found that monster's AI is bad compared to DM:
In DM/CSB, (I think some) monsters has sence (I don't know, mabye it is a bigger intelligence, maybe it is an olftaction) , which allows to track party even if party is not in sight.
I could add an example when I was playing CSB on my Amiga: In room with plenty of dragons and plenty of false walls (32,26,3) one dragon started to catch me. I escaped through false wall to the "safe place" at (31,33,3), while I left dragon far away, approx. at (31,25,3) - it is about 8 tiles away. I though my party is safe and rested. But dragon followed me and killed my not-yet-fully-rested party.

In RTC no dragon tried to follow me, when I got about 6-7 tiles far from him. But what's worse - see subject. You can find my .21 savegame at bi ... CSB.SV7 - but be warned, fireball is on the way and kills two party memebers right after you load the game...
My party is at (5,33,3), dragon probably at (11,33,3). Although I could not see the dragon, he fires fireballs at me. I observed this behaviour in main room with false walls, when dragon from (32,23,3) fired at my party staying at (32,30,3) - but I am not 100% sure.
It is weird that dragon can sense my party and fires fireballs, but does not try to advance to follow my party.
