Necklaces....
Could anyone shed light into the usefullness, or not, of the necklaces that you find in DM/CSB. In all the times I have completed both games I never really took much notice of the necklaces except the Pendal Feral and the illumulets which proved useful. What about: Jewel Symal Ekkhard Cross Choker (kinky) Moonstone Anyone?
The Jewel Symal adds 15 anti-fire, not wisdom, I believe.
Long ago a message appeared (on this board?) suggesting that the Hellion attracts Chaos, at least in DM if not also in CSB.
The Ekkhard Cross and Gem of Ages probably do help with priest and wizard spells, as that would make sense.
The choker, I once heard, is supposed to "calm" barbarian characters (Halk and - ?), though I don't know how that would be apparent, unless it would make the stamina depletion slower.

This link (I don't remember how I found the site unless it was from a message on this board a long time ago) lists some possible properties of necklaces and other items - for the Amiga version - including some that aren't included, like the Conduit, as well as some properites that sound dubious, which leads to the questions of who compiled the list, from what, and when. (Is it from a hint book? Did the author talk to anyone at FTL?) The "monster confusion" spell is also listed, which definitely doesn't work in the PC version, but I've seen it listed elsewhere.
There's also the mention of the Pendant Feral having originally belonged to Wuuf, so maybe if you give it to him, something special will happen? >If< this is the case (unless it would determined only by the character's name, which of course can easily be changed), then there must be built-in coding for the characters, as with the theory of "good" and "evil" characters automatically closing the doors to Lor and Kazai in the CSB Prison.
And what's the Amulet of Duga?

The extra information that you speak of is from "The Secrets of Dungeon Mastery" - a hint book written by Dragonlance Chronicles author, Tracy Hickman.
I have a copy of it - it's written as a translation of one Sir Edvarg the Unfailing - an adventurer of some repute who would go plundering dungeons and the like.
It's very good, as it's not simply a guide book - you have to read between the lines. I think that some of the information was made up, without consultation with FTL, as there are a few things that we don't know about - such as the Amulet of Duga. But a lot of it is great information, and most of the info about amulets and necklaces could well be true.
