Shooting around a corner
Did you ever try this? Place a monster behind a corner (it has to be a big one, e.g. a dragon or a scorpion). Then shoot fireballs at the wall, so that they hit the wall right beside the monster. Most of the time the fireball explodes harmlessly, but sometimes the monster takes the damage (and blows up).
Or, you could put a spinner in the corner and then send a fireball and watch it turn the corner...v. satifying.
Mmm thinking about this situation, can a monster be killed by its own attack spell? Like the classic running into your own fireball whilst chasing a bloody giggler... If say, you had a dragon and placed it behind a spinner that redirected its fireballs straight back to it, the dragon should become toast. Just wondering...

Very often on level six while fighting some nasty skeletons, a beholder comes around and zaps the skeletons from behind. Very nice! I already saw Lord Chaos killing his own demons when he stood right behind them. I wonder, did FTL miss to fix this in the monster AI, or was it programmed to help the player?
Yeah, after I sent the mail I was trying to think if this happened in DM/Chaos. The beholders seem to have a habit of hooting skeletons and Chaos got a bit trigger happy on L13 when I was there to. Can't think offhand of any instances in chaos, but as I am playing it again I shall be on the lookout.
