Do I remember correctly that there was a cheat/bug in one of the Amiga versions of DM, which allowed you to clone items at will?
I am sure that I remember doing this, but don't see anything about it on the site.
Basically what you do is get to a pit which you can open and close yourself, make sure the pit is closed, then put a fluxcage onto the closed pit. Then open the pit - the fluxcage falls through the pit. Then go down a level, find the fluxcage. To clone an item, put it into the fluxcage and pick it up, if it works you have the item in your hand and it is still on the floor, so you can pick up several.
It was a bit hit and miss and could also caused some strange graphic effects, and crashed the game quite often, but quite handy.
Please, someone else tell me they remember this, and I haven't gone mad!

Re: Cheat in Amiga Version
Yes, I remember this well. I think it only really worked at the 5x5 pit puzzle on the treasure stores, and only in early versions of the Amiga game. I believe it was fixed in v3.6 as I've never been able to do it in that version.
Re: Cheat in Amiga Version
It also works on the Apple IIGS version, with possible strange consequences. I remember seeing a Giggler appear in the fluxcage and it couldn't leave. Killing it causes the game to freeze. Also saw screamers on the Cavern level. After awhile, the items on the floor all turned into Slayer Arrows. I have only been able to do this at the pit room in the Treasure Stores area. Another thing that seemed to always cause the game to freeze is throwing an object through the fluxcage. I don't remember what happens if you lure a monster into the fluxcage.
