DM2 won't run

I just bought a CD of DM2, but I can't get past the installation process.

I'm running Win 98. I get as far as configuring the sound card, which plays a sound correctly. Then nothing else I do works, and I get messages about illegal operations.

In DOS I can see the files, but when I try to run from DOS exactly the same thing happens - nothing.

What am I missing?

I know this is an old game, but why do they sell a boxed game in the year 2003 that can't even recognise Windows and run a proper setup? I'm an old DM fan from the Atari days, which is why I decided to pick this game up for my PC.

DM2 IS A DOS GAME IT WILL ONLY RUN IN DOS MODE!!!!!!!

Same thing happened to me with the downloaded version, in win 98 AND in dos mode.
At least i can see the logos & intro, then it crashes, leaving me in Win98/DOS.
I also tried to directly run Skull.exe, got an error msg under win98.
Then i tried the same in Dos mode, had to reset my comp after 5min, black screen, nothing happened.

you have to Run the SETUP.exe Program and setup your sound card if you have one or not, and then run DM2.bat NOT SKULL.exe and it should run just fine.

Hello Old Warrior!

If you do have the second edition of Win98 Im sorry to say that it wont work. Microsoft removed the necessary dos-things in the version. But I have gotten it to work fine with the first edition (but with second no Dosgames workes - at least not for me).

But can't play through windows, but you can play through dos

dos in win98se is fine, I've played DM myself - still not got DM 2 sound to work

Hello Beowuuf!

Have you gotten dosgames to work with sound in the Win98se dos?? To me the sound is totaly gone, thatswhy I have gotten rid of my Win98se and use first edition or Win95. And I have tested them all three on the same computer (with corrrect routines). Did you add something to the Win98se version (f.e. updates, servicepacks??), or did it come with the copy??????

I think its a matter or sound cards for me
I have a really old one i still use instead of the on-board, with Dos drivers, and on fiddling with the settigns in DM 2 set up, i actually got the DM spudns to work
I have upgraded alot too, but i don't think that has mattererd..

Im glad to hear Beowuuf! Win98se was a disapointment to me though, but in my win 95 and with my Soundblaster live, I have many dosgames working : )
