I was wondering if somebody really uses these spells?

Hmm let me see, what spells do I use...
Fireball
Magic Torch
Vi Potion
Vi Bro Potion
Zokathra (obviously!)
Open Door spell
Harm Non-Material Being
Erm...yeah, think that's about it. I don't bother with anything else and I do fine :).

This is what I like about Dungeon Master. You can choose to play it how you want. You can be subtle and clever about it, and use every spell for its correct advantage, or just wade in with swords swining and fireballs toasting.

Looks like most people probably opt for the latter! :-)

The only time I ever used the above spells was trying them out when I found their scrolls!

for the first two, usually snekaing passed monsters requires space - invisibility seems to not matter when you are right beside the creature, unless i have been using it against the wrong creatures- and if you have enough space, runnign suffices where sneaking doesn't

similarly with darkness, i find the disadvantage of no light outways any ability to creep pased a monster!

footprints i've never used, because by the time i can cast it at a level for it to last long enough, i have a compass or have gone throug hthe dungeon enough that i don't need to map the areas it would be useful in!

Only ever use invisibility (found it useful in levels where a lot of demons or chaos are around) but even that very rarely. Footprints purely for testing purposes, darkness never. I like to see and take the advantage of having monsters do the same.

I've used the invis assuming it was working however I don't know that it was or not. The foot prints yeah I used them for a little while in those areas that had me twist and turn or what have you. Though I switched to using zokathra as a marker later.. I could cast them to areas I'd been in before before I started mapping.

Darkness.. well to be honest I'm with PITD on this one.. I'd like to see this comming from certain monsters so that when you kill them light is back up.
