Sleeping should regenerate stats quicker

Sleeping should regenerate stats quicker

Post by George Gilbert »

A suggestion from PicturesInTheDark split out from another post.
sleeping is pretty boring. I have to admit it's the same in V0.23, but maybe the process can be speeded up a little. It takes between half and a full minute to recover the mana of a ~100 points mage - if there's no reason about the engine being extremely busy in the meanwhile I would vote for a shortening of that period.

from what I remember in DM I would hear all the sounds playing at faster intervals suggesting that time was happening at perhaps 4 times speed of regular play. So the computer was still calculating everything going on in the dungeon. This obviously still needs to be done. It also would not do, to press the sleep button and then have it blink and you get attacked by a rat because somewhere in the lighting fast calculation a rat stumbled upon you. The point of you still being able to hear sounds allowed you to wake up before being attacked.

If I heard a mummy or rat's footsteps nearby I would wake up and move it on out or take out the little blighter and go back to sleep. So if it's made too fast you don't get that heads up..

I agree it can be boring but I understand why it's the way it is and I vote it stays as is unless the speed up still allows us to know when something is comming before it's on us..

I quite agree - the engine should be able to calculate it, I remember the sounds the same way as you do and asked for a speed up only if it was possible without disturbing the workings of the engine. So maybe the sleeping speed could be doubled - if you can still here the monster's sounds that would be sufficient I think.

So we have a point of reference here, the engine does indeed already run at double speed when you're sleeping (and stats regernerate at faster than double)...

You are saying... what? Were there any changes to the engine for V0.28 or is the mode still the same as before?

Hmm, perhaps the next release could have sleep run at three times the normal play,to see if it's closer to cows 4x guess
I rmemeber amiga sounds too, and it did seem very fast, as does csb4win (pitd, try the emerald forets in conflux, and just stand...sometimes you get secondary damage from missles and don't wake up, so you can judge speed difference very well there)
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

Yes I already tried ;o) I like the time that's passing in CSBwin - you can still listen to the sounds but don't have to wander off aimlessly into the kitchen until your characters regenerated their stats - so yes, maybe the next release could do it a little quicker then it should be fine.

I agree with that. Sleeping time of next release should run 50-100% faster than it is doing currently. And waking fully up (cool idea btw!) should take only about half of the time it takes currently.

In CSBWin, sleep speeds the ticks by a factor of 10.
