Thanks to OpTiMal, Dungeon Master for FM-Towns can be downloaded from the eDonkey2000 network (with eMule for example). Here is the link:
ed2k://|file|Dungeon.Master.ISO.FM-Towns-OpTiMaL.rar|179873391|E59AC16E10D7C04E8D4ED0F4BDC28466|/
The game runs fine with the UNZ emulator. The CD image contains both english and japanese versions.
If you download the file, please keep it shared so that more people can download it.

OK, I have downloaded the ISO, but am having a lot of trouble getting it to work with Unz.
Can I use the ISO image as is? Do I have to burn it to an actual CD?
I tried mounting the ISO using Daemon Tools and then getting UNZ to recognise it but nothing happens. I also made an actual CD of the image using Blindwrite but there's nothing on the disk when viewed in Windows Explorer.
I usually work these things out for myself but there seem to be too many variables and I'm not patient enough!
Can someone outline the way to get this to work with Unz. Thanks.

I got a little bit further with using Daemon Tools and the ISO image. I had to manually edit the UNZ.INI file to look at the correct combination of Adapter/LUN/SCSI ID to pick up the virtual CD I'd mounted using Daeomn Tools.
I now get the FM-Towns boot screen, so something's working, but it doesn't get any further than that...
Any ideas???

I played with the ISO image mounted in Daemon Tools. In Explorer you can see the files on the CD.
If you use Daemon Tools, do not forget to check "Analog audio" in the options if you want to hear the CD-Audio music tracks.
You need the FM-Towns BIOS: http://www.jcec.co.uk/fmtown_emu.html
The most tricky bit for me was to get UNZ to find my CD-ROM drive. No matter what I did in the UI (in CD-ROM1 tab), it was never saved in the configuration file, so I had to manually configure the CD-ROM in the unz.ini file. In the CD-ROM1 tab, select ASPI and click the "Scan available devices" button. The three numbers to the left (like 1:2:1) correspond to these settings in the [CDROM Emulation] section of the unz.ini file: AdapterID:ScsiID:Lun. Put the correct values manually in the .ini file and it should work.
I don't remember configuring other settings to boot from the CD. Have you tried the "capture CD" option in the File menu? Maybe it can help...

Yup, I've done all that (had the same problem with the latest versions not saving the cd-rom settings)
Still can't get anything to boot -- I just get the pink bow-tie screen and it stays there forever...
Should I be mounting the CUE file or the ISO file in Daemon Tools?
EDIT: Makes no difference if I use the CUE file or the ISO file -- still won't boot.
Very annoying!

Aha, I've finally got it to work! You were right about the Capture Cd option -- although it's actually labelled Notify Cd Change if you already have the ISO loaded. I selected that, and I finally got the desktop to show with the two DM icons.
However, I couldn't load it by double clicking, so I put the emulator into full-screen mode (some docs I found said that you needed to do this for Zak McKraken) but I still couldn't get the game to load by double-clicking the icon.
I had a look to see what other options might be available, and noticed that Fullspeed was ticked. So Turned that off, tried again... and it worked!
I'll write up a proper "How to" and post it over the weekend.

I already wrote a small how-to for my next site update, but I think I'll have to update it with your own experience. I don't remember touching the "notify CD" or "fullspeed" options...
Do you have autorun enable for you CD-ROM? Perhaps if it is enabled (like for me) the CD boots automatically in the emulator, and when it is disabled you have to use "notify" ?

You have to be very patient, there are only very few sources for this file.
I encourage all the people who already downloaded the game to keep it shared in eMule and set the upload priority of that file to "Release" (which is the highest priority).
Also, do not modify the file in any way or when you share it, it will become a different file and it won't be possible for other users to download from both you and other people at the same time.

Just a quick update about Chaos Strikes Back for FM-Towns. I just received my copy from Japan, but if I use the actual CD and the UNZ emulator, I don't get any CD audio playing, even though I can see that the drive light is on. However, I made an ISO+CUE and played it that way, and I got the CD-AUDIO fine (including the CD-quality version of the Terror March on the intro anim -- finally, a high quality version!!)
This might be something to do with the fact that I don't have an audio link between my CD drives and sound card -- I use digital transfer down the IDE connector.
Just thought I'd let people know...

Well, if someone has 450MB of free webspace, yeah, sure....
I'll need to look into a file sharing alternative other than eMule. I use my computer A LOT, and eMule just slows the whole machine down to a crawl if I have it running in the background. At the moment, I use DC++ for sharing, but no-one else here seems to use it. If others tried DC++, I would be happy to let you know the hubs I use, then you could get the file that way.

DC++ is P2P! But people only seem to use the big names like Kazza, WinM or Limewire. I have no idea why -- DC++ is smaller, simpler, quicker, less bloated and for the tru hard-core file sharer. Give it a try...
