Still discovering stuff

Post by Zyx »

Go in front of a door with a switch. Prepare a fireball or a lightning bolt.
Open or close the door, cast the spell when the doors is opening/closing.
Do you know what will happen?

LOl, tried it in PC DM and CSBwin, and nothing happens - I expected the door to jam in the position or something

Go one, what happens (and in what conditions)
And also, how fast can you open a door? I couldn't get from spell interface to switch, I had to use floor pads and molasses speed (CSBwin)!

I tried to reproduce it and make a movie, but It seems it only happens with a debug version that Paul S handed to me. So it's probably a bug at this stage, but since it made sense, it could be turned into a feature maybe?
Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you, I'll keep the secret until you can discover it by yourselves :)

So, Paul, can you try as described with your debug version?

LOL. Possibly somethign to do with the duplicate timer stuff, or something? Hmm, maybe a closed door goes back to being closed, an open door is blasted open again (so you could theoretically jam a door back open that was shutting - now that would break a few puzzles though...

I tried it with my current debug version. Nothing
happened. I very clearly hit the door with the
big fireball at about its 3/4 up position. I tried it
with a 'Bashable' and 'non-bashable' door.

In RTC I've mistimed casting a Fireball at a mob behind a door and accidentally hit the door while it was still opening...it just hit the door rather than the mob witb no other effect. I think, though, once, I hit a door and it was obviously a non-fireproof door 'cause I broke it, ie it turned into the "broken door" graphic. I think that happened in Sukumvit's Labyrinth somewhere but I can't remember.

That effect was due to a bad error in the Missile
Encounter code. A test for equality rather than a
test for inequality. You will notice that Zo spells
have no effect on that door because of the same
error. I don't think I want to try and fix the Zo spell
and, at the same time, reproduce the behaviour of
the Door and Fireball.

Oh, too bad. The door was stopped stuck by the explosion...
