As us all Europeans know (unless of course you were living under a rock or got lost somewhere in the depths of Mt Anaias) the PlayStation Portable was released on Thursday. I was juts wondering if anyone else has bothered to get one. They're a pretty nifty piece of kit. The screen quality is really sharp but a bit reflective, maybe too reflective - you can almost use it as a mirror!

I was really impressed with the ability to watch films and TV shows on. After searching a few guides on the Internet, I found a few programs to rip DVDs and convert them to PSP format (freeware of course). Obviously the quality is not as good as the original but it's pretty damn good. On a 1GB memory stick I've manged to put on an episode of Rab C. Nesbitt, Futurama and Red Dwarf (all about 25-30 mins each), and 30 MP3s.

I'm not sure what everyone else thinks but I can say I'm impressed, although I was a bit disappointed after reading Dark's post about running DM through an emulator. Unfortunately, the European PSP's come with the V1.52 firmware already installed meaning homebrew apps and emulators won't run on it :( (They can ony be run on a V1.5 or less and there's no easy way of downgrading) Oh well, back to RTC on the laptop for train jouneys then....

yeah, sucks that you guys got them so late and preloaded with the new revision. I don't quite get why they did it though as such things only increase popularity of said hardware to people out there.. no reason to deny us this advantage...

anyway, I love mine, but I must say it is a bit of an effort playing it on a sunny day or a bright overcast day.. you need to wear a dark shirt and angle it towards you.. as you know reflecting black or dark colours makes it easier to see through glass where as the brighter the more opaque the reflection.

not that owning a PSP should mean you need to dress like a goth.. but hey.. whatever works for you ;)

They'll probably release an anti-glare version as more people complain, but meanwhile you could get put some glare coat on it.
