[fixed for V0.36] Ambient Sounds On Startup

Post by Sophia »

An ambient sound that is triggered by the first square in the dungeon doesn't shut off when it should (freezing game, looking into a mirror, etc.), but it then when the sound would restart, it restarts itself anyway-- so now there are two copies of the sound playing.

I haven't noticed this. Are you using the right scope?

Fixed for V0.36!

Incidently, the fix for this also fixes another similar problem whereby if its a localised sound on the first square, it doesn't decrease in volume as you get further away from it.

FYI - you can reproduce the problem by replacing the sound files (leaving the dungeon items as they are) in TheZoo with longer samples so that they're still playing by the time you reach the mirrors.

I have noticed something else in my test dungeon connected to sound -- my looping ambient sound that starts when I enter the dungeon has it's volume decreased once I am within range of my fountain -- something odd going on there with volume levelling I think. The ambient sound shouldn't change.

Might be the same bug - can you send me the test dungeon with the relevant files and I'll take a look.

I was a bit wrong, here's clarirfcation of my problem:

I have a looping ambient sound set to level scope that starts playing on the entrance square. It plays quite loudly, I think at the same volume as another sound on the same square -- but the other sound is a localised sound.

The looping ambient sound drops to a lower volume after it has played once.

Seems like it's taking it's initial volume from the volume of the localised sound?

If you want to test this, use the last soundtest dungeon you downloaded but update it to v0.35 -- the problem is there.

Incidentally, the volume levelling of localised ambient sounds is massively improved now. My fountain works perfectly! :)

I think this is the same problem - I've emailed you an updated RTC.exe file to check that the fix to Sophias problem also fixes yours! Let me know how you get on...
