NOOBIE HELP! Still cannot get RTC to accept edited Dungeons!

Hi all,

And especially a BIG THANKS to George, I have missed DM and CSB since I first came across them on ATARI ST...

I love the editor as well, but I am still having a lot of bother trying to get my dungeons recognised.

I have read the editing guide and the .txt file that came with the package but still to no avail...

I am no big creator and have only tried minor edits... No errors are left but when I follow the guide to get it running I am given the message "CRITICAL ERROR! TERMINATING PROGRAM CAN'T READ..."

I have tried everything I can think of... Anyone help please?

Thanks Guys...

Oh and George.... Our master.... Any chance of seeing a DM2 - Legend of Skullkeep Clone?

That sounds like you haven't gotten the path right to the .txt file in your compile command.

You can use relative references such as /modules/mytetx.txt rather than absolute references, eg c:/games/rtc/modules.mytextt.txt if that is easier (less ways for the wheels to ocme off)

Try that

There is lots of fucntions in RTC now, so DM2 dungeon under the RTC engine is certainly possible, but it sounds like it will be a commiunity or single person effort to create it, not a default dungeon relased for RTC anytime soon

You know, I've read the Editing.txt file myself and I still can't work out how to make a custom dungeon choose-able from the menu selection, I just include the line "COMPILE[tab][tab]Modules\New\MyDungeon.txt"* at the bottom of the Config.txt file to play the "MyDungeon" custom game and delete it when I want to play one of the pre-designed games.

Works for me, but maybe I'm just being stupid.

*Where 'New' is the name of the folder I made to hold my custom designs and 'MyDungeon' is the name I gave to the Dungeon when I choose "Save As".

when compiled, your dungeon should become Modules\New\MyDungeon.RTC : verify that this file actually exists and remove the COMPILE line and run RTC, then it should be in the dungeons list (in New directory).
if you don't have a compiled RTC file, this means that compilation failed for some reason.. then check for errors in MyDungeon.log file.l

Oh yeah! I keep missing it because I never bothered changing the name of it when saving. I was expecting the dungeon to be named after what I called it when saving the .txt file.

In fact, better still, just put a ; in front of your compile line -- this comments it out, and as long as you have compiled your file, it'll now be available at startup.

I have lots of COMPILE lines in my config file and I just comment out all but the one I'm working on.

When I'm saving my files, I just cave 'em straight in the Modules folder, so my compile line reads...

COMPILE (Tab) Modules\Smeg.txt

("Smeg.txt" being the name of my dungeon file).
A dungeon will only compile into an .rtc file if no Critical Errors are found when you try to load it (Warnings are okay though). Once a file has compiled and the .rtc file has been created, as long as this is in your Modules folder, it'll show up in the menu thing at the start.

Your dungeon is called Smeg?! Does it, by any chance feature a bum, a hologram, a cat and a robot on a space ship?

Rofl no...and it doesn't feature Polymorphs, Psirens, the Inquisitor, or a mutant killer curry monster either. It's just the random word I use for want of another word...though the file is called Smeg, the dungeon most certainly isn't ;).
