All, I need help I am embarrassed to say!
Level 4 - I have chopped down the door but am stuck at the next door that opens using the button on the floor. I know about the teleport on the wall that moves the team 1 square nearer the door but the door simply closes too fast !!
I have tried moving with mouse and key board (One glitch may be that I am using a laptop which means that side step doesnt work with keys).
I have tried dropping all heavy items but the door simply closes too fast - what am I doing wrong ??????
You can reconfigure the keys in the Config file if you want, so it's possible to sidestep. You need to push the button on the wall which teleports you beside the door, then step to the right a couple of times immediately. If you use the mouse to push the button and the keyboard to step, it should be easy provided no-one in your party is in the yellow, weight-wise. You might take a tap on the head but you should be able to make it through .

Well, if you're using RTC, just open the Config file and find the bit where it lists where the keys are mapped to - then just change them to whatever you like and save it.
Btw I just noticed this is in the CSB forum...but I kinda assumed from your description in the post (as well as the thread title) that it's actually DM you're playing, right?

Indeed it sounds as if you are stuck in Dungeon Master 1, not Chaos Strikes Back. Next time for one better choose the correct forum and use positions from the Encyclopaedia maps or from the RTC Editor to describe exactly where you are stuck.
I assume that you are stuck at the beginning of the magenta worm level in Dungeon Master 1. Press the button and immediately sidestep to the right twice, using your mouse for the button and your keyboard for the movement. You will get bashed on the head by the door once though, seems that can't be avoided.
Actually to just use the keyboard (I think it was the numeric pad used to move) you don't have to reconfigure the config file, just if you want to personalize the keys used, which might make sense especially on a laptop keyboard. Use the editor to open the config.txt file, the keys usable and their names used in the config file are listed there in plain text, so you can simply substitute what you deem necessary. Mind though that this is a tab-separated file, so if you accidentally delete a tab and insert spaces instead it won't work.
Parting is all we know from Heaven, and all we need of hell.
On the Apple IIGS version, it's possible to avoid taking the damage, but very difficult. You need to hit the mouse button at practically the same time as you hit the sidestep button, and keep hitting the sidestep until you are through the door. Having "keyboard buffering" turned on in the IIGS Control Panel is a must. Due to the slow speed of the computer, you can hit the button while the arrow is being highlighted, and the subsequent keypress is also recorded. It's as difficult as it sounds, and I often mess it up and get based anyways, but I've done it.
