No more BB code for now

Sorry guys, but I switched off BB code temporarily -- I'm sick of porn images popping up all over the place. At least this will stop our younger members being exposed to unsuitable material.

At some point over the holidays I'll be looking into a complete forum overhaul as it's long overdue and I'll finally have a bit of time.

What's BB code? Does turning it off affect us in any noticeable way?

Yep, you can't post inline images anymore or use any formatting in your posts.

Oh, I don't use any of that anyway. Well, I'm not sure what it means by "formatting", but meh, I probably wouldn't now how to use it anyway

Actually, if you've ever quoted a message, you've used it. Apparently even things like the quote tag and bold face text are currently unusable.

I understand the desire to stop porn spammers and keep undesirable images out of the forum, but surely there's some intermediate step between allowing them the run of the place and completely disabling all formatting tags? (Like disabling IMG alone, for example...)

The main thing bothering me at the moment is that the unavailability of bold text and code tags (neither of which has anything to do with spammers) has left a lot of the documentation and Lua code samples on the DSB forum unreadable garbage. I understand if you're about to upgrade things that there may be some bumps, but "at some point over the holidays" could be a while, and if your life gets busy, who knows-- and it is not my intent at all to put pressure on you to upgrade or do forum maintenance when you have already done so much-- so I bring this up now in hopes a better temporary solution could also be reached.

Sorry, I didn't realise it disabled quotes and stuff, I'll re-enable it. And temporary solutions involve research that takes longer than a fresh install, so there's your answer.

EDIT: Please let me know if there are any problems since I turned it back on.

Ah, right, sometimes it happens that way. I just didn't want to be put in the position where I'd be constantly pestering you-- I do enough of that.

Yeah, if there was any way to block img alone ti would be great, since as said now we get hardcore images spammed - hich means I can't delete posts at work now, merely move them to 'for pruning' section until such times as I can get their IP addresses
