Beginning of Level 5

Post by Dungeon Miss »

Help!!! Im totally new to this forum but have been playing Dungeon Master (the original) the past few days and i cant for the life of me figure out where the riddle room is to get to level 5 after i get past the platelets. Can anyone help me? I've searched high and low for an answer but all the walk throughs are the same and dont help me. I get down the stairs to where the skeleton with the sword is then after awhile he disappears. Are these the stairs? Where are the alcoves?
I have also attempted to read the maps but i cant make them out!! I am dying to figure this out !!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

You may be having trouble reading the maps due to considering the level with the Riddle Room to be level 5 - it's only so if you take the HoC as Level 0, which as far as I know, no map/guide does - they count the HoC as 1 and therefore the Riddle Room level is Level 6 - the one below the one witht he Flying Snakes. Anyway, there are two ways down to that level from the level above (well, three if you count falling down a pit but that just leads to a single room with a teleporter that goes back up to the pit room), one of which leads to a room with a Skelly in, the other to the Riddle Room :).

Oh, welcome to the forum and to DM btw - hope you're enjoying it so far (well, apart from being stuck ;))!

Hmmm, I'm not entirely certain where exactly you refer to, but I'll try anyway. If that should be not sufficient to help, please go to the Dungeon Master Encyclopedia you'll find in the quick links above and refer to its maps' coordinates!

I guess you come from the level with the storage rooms, where you encounter screamers, swamp slimes and couatls.

I guess you want to proceed to the next level, and you have read that it starts with a riddle room. and I guess that you proceeded through one of the 4 storage areas of that level and found a staircase there that leads down a level to a room that doesn't contain much aside from a skeleton and a button that opens the passage to a teleporter that brings you back to the entrance of that storage area. This is not the way to proceed. Not all staircases mean "next level starting here".

Go back to the entry of the level. Just go down the main corridor there, do not verge to the left where the storage rooms are. On the end of the main corridor there is a door with a simple button that will reveal the stairs to the next level, to the riddle room.

What might be confusing is, that you don't have to do any of the storage areas. You just can completely bypass this level, its only purpose is to gain some training and loot.

Lunever you are correct in where i am. I am going to attempt what you suggested.

Thanks for the welcome..i used to sit and watch my brothers play DM back in the 80's. I was never allowed to play of course, much to scary for a 7 year old. Now i can finally get my revenge...though i still find myself jumping !!! :?

Lunever practically said everything that can be said about your situation Dungeon Miss, but I don't want to skip the opportunity to welcome you to the forums! It's always great to see new people who still love this ancient game. And if it still makes you jump, it only shows just how great Dungeon Master really is.

Here is what was happening. I had saved the game in the room i explained where the skeleton usually appears. When i go back up the stairs I cant get back to the stairs to the next level. Its like its disappeared. Fortunately I saved the game in a couple of different spots and it was no drama.

Having never been a gamer (is that what they still call them?) Im finding this all rather exciting!!! Cant wait to face the end!!! ooooooo! :D

Thanks for your help, replies and welcomes.

Dungeon Master was the first game for me that I got emotional, with my characters. No, not weeping, shouting or kissing them - just smiling to myself and saying 'Attaboy Wuuf!'

Can I just belatedly welcome you to the forum! Welcome!

I find level six (five) a little intense. Don't be afraid to explore. There are a certain pair of curvy weapons to be found in the hidden areas of the level later that are unbelieveably helpful later on.

I wish I could erase dungeon master from my mind and play it again.

I entirely echo your thoughts, Simon! Same with Chaos Strikes Back!
