A bug [using an old version]

Post by terkio »

While playing Towers of Chaos V3.3, once I have a dead character the 3 icons to change positions don' t work right.
Messing with it, it ends up, all 3 stay stuck at the same place , 2 are not displayed any more.
No trouble when 4 characters.

I just tried this with version 12.5 of CSBwin.

I tried with a party of four. I tried with a
party of three. In each case, I killed off
Elija. Then I was still able to move the
remaining character's positions without
any trouble.

What version of CSBwin are you using?

The one packaged in TOC3.3 .zip from the encyclopedia http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/1484
I started with a party of 4, I kill one, then there is trouble.

To make sure, it is reproducible, I just downloaded from the link above.
Enter prison, resurect 4 champions, bang bang bang in a wall until one dies....indeed the positionning issue is here.

If it is an older version of CSBwin, then there
is not much I can do to help. You are welcome
to try version 12.5 if you like. It can be found
at:

If it fails in version 12.5, I can be more helpful.

Towers of Chaos V3.3 was released with CSB Version 9.91.
In this game there is a bit where it is supposed to "sacrifice a team member", how come this trouble did not creep out ?

No trouble with CSBwin Version 12.5. :)

Is it safe to switch engine ( from 9.91 to 12.5 ) while a game is in progress ?

Is it safe to switch engine
To be totally safe, you better dig a hole,
crawl in, and cover yourself. After 30 minutes
or so.....you will be safe.

To be mostly safe, I would say:
Backup old saves.
Switch to 12.5
Play the game.
After 30 minutes or so, I'd give you 99 percent
chance of safety.....probably better than I could
give you while playing with version 9.91.

Best of Luck.

***Edited to add the following:

If you are recording the game, then switching
engines will cause (probably surmountable) problems.
