Beware, this version is a resource hog. Do not install on an old PC.
With a freshly installed XP on an old PC ( Intel P3 733MHz 384MB RAM ) I had everything working fine, quite slow but acceptable.
Then I installed Avast 8, it killed this machine. Trashing so bad, no way to remove Avast.
I had to re-install.
Now, should I use an old avast version, another anti virus, else ?

Re: Avast version 8
I've stopped using Avast as well (after yeaaaars).
I tried Microsoft Security Essentials. I found it cool at the beginning but it switched all Windows Update settings to on - i.e. automatic update - and became heavier everyday.
I finally switched to AVG, which is very light and not too intrusive.

Thanks, I was thinking to use Micro$oft Security Essentials, I' ll try AVG.
Nowdays, updates are so heavy, old machines cannot survive anymore.
Planned obsolescence.
I nstalled a XP Pro Service Pack 2 then installed SP3.
I only have 384MB RAM on this old machine, I was told XP SP2 needs 300MB, XP SP3 needs 500MB minimum to run fine. So it would be better to stay with SP2.
What do you think ?

Can't you add more RAM to your box ?

Yes, I am looking for more memory.
The MoBo is an ABIT BE6, max memory is 3 x 256MB, but I only have 128MB RAMs ( PC133 168 pins SDRAM ).
