Darkness Spell

What is it's usefulness in the game? I mean, is there any kind of monster that is scared of the dark or that does not perceive the party in full darkness?

The ability of creatures to see the party is slightly influenced by the light level in the dungeon. So technically, darkness would help moving without being seen.
Personally, I have never used that spell while playing.

Me neither, but encountering it's scroll while recording my Let's play raised the question again in my mind.
