ESB: Establishing Link With ESB

Post by Ser Xav »

Hi Sophia, very occasionally I get this problem where, when I run the 'Test in DSB' command from ESB, it launches DSB (0.82 in this case), displays the start-up text on the blue background, but stops at 'Establishing link with ESB'. I have to force quit DSB, I can't close it normally, and then if I re-run 'Test in DSB', it reports DSB is running, even though the process seems to be gone in Task Manager. I have to restart ESB, and the same thing happens. So far, only way I have found to stop this error is to restart machine. PC is Win10 64bit (very modern gaming spec basically). Thought you might know, or want to know. Any ideas what's up, why this might be? Much appreciated.

The only reliable way anyone ever found to get this to happen was... playing Quake 2, apparently. So this might have something to do with some other program you're running not properly cleaning up after itself or some OS value getting changed or... I don't know. Anyway, this presumably creates a problem down the line for DSB. I've never been able to reproduce this, unfortunately.

Hmm ok, thanks. I wasn’t playing Quake 2…. But maybe I will now! Purely for scientific research purposes, obviously. I’ll try to keep a lookout for a reason why ESB might get tripped up.
