Eye of the Beholder remake monster trouble

A question regarding the above.
For some reason DM Java by Solito version does not seem to pick up the .gif & .png monster graphics (and a few other dungeons).
I was hoping that Germannys dmjava editor guide would help but that now seems long lost to the world.
I've have had a go with a few graphics programs with no luck...a latest version of windows thing?
Can anyone point me in the right direction, I am out of ideas.
