What we lost from the CRT

Post by cowsmanaut »

It saddens me to think that I've been away from CRTs so long that I'd forgotten the advantages they offered in retro art methods... then to have someone clearly from another generation entirely (who probably was born post CRT) remind me of it. So, while I die of shame over here, I figured many of you might want to join me :D

it's an important reminder that as we play these emulated games that (honestly the pixel art is still ok and fills us with nostalgia) we are missing the blending and smearing the CRT offered.. which means updating the graphics is almost a neccessary step in getting back to that original feeling. :)

Happy New Year Cowsman! Good to see you again and with such a cool link too.

Yes, CRTs made everything look better back in the day. We had a few posts about it previously:
We don't remember DM properly
Making new games look like they're old

This link is sort of related too:
Dungeon Master 2 Aspect Ratio in DOS VGA, Amiga PAL and NTSC with Photos

I no longer have the space for much tech in our house, I keep a small room for my office and deskspace is very limited. But I'd really love to play a few old games on a CRT again one day. Might have to move house just to get an extra room for that! :D
