RTC and keyboard

Post by PicturesInTheDark »

One of the minor annoyances with RTC for me is the keyboard - since a lot of things are customizable it's a bit annoying that movement can only be made via the arrows, because I have a laptop at home, so I'd rather customize them to (for example) jklm,. (like in CSBwin). Is there any way to do so presently, because it's not funny playing the higher difficulty levels when you can't navigate properly ?

Fighting and spellcasting would be a bonus with the keyboard, but I guess that won't be possible since you can either choose movement or spellcasting in the config file.

I strongly support this. I'd like to have more functions available via the keyboard too (movement AND spellcasting).

You can already make screenshots in RTC using Ctrl P. It's all documented in the FAQ of the manual, which is in the Manual folder off the main RTC folder.

Cool I didn't know that...well, in fact I'd never even considered it hehe...Can you only take screenshots in RTC or is it possible in DMO and CSB as well?

It's part of the RTC program and nothing to do with the Dungeon you're playing, so it'll work for all of them.

Hi Ameena! Welcome to the new forum!
But you should change one detail in your profile: When you enter "N/A" in Y! and AIM, there will be buttons created in your profile and below every one of your posts that try to add a buddy called "N/A" to your messengers and send messages to that "na" when clicked unto. Just leave'em blank, so there are no missunderstandings, right?

Going back to the matter of screenshots, I just took one but it's really small compared to the screen when I opened it in Paint (wanted to stick it up as the desktop wallpaper :))...is there any way to increase the size/resolution of the pic?

You'll need a graphics package to resize the image for use on your desktop. Paint just doesn't cut it! Do you have any graphics software and the necessary experience? If so, let us know what software you have, and I can post you steps on how to make a larger image.

Alternatively, if you have Windows XP or earlier versions of windows that use active desktop, you can set your desktop image to "Stretch" rather than "Tiled" or "Centered", and it should fill the screen.

Well I dunno about experience (pfft), but I've got Adobe Photoshop and Paintshop Pro (downloaded from a friend across MSN Messenger a few days ago hehe ) if they're okay. Please do explain in the most basic English as I probably have no clue...I wanna get this sorted so I can stick up an image of the DM dungeon entrance and thus surprise my dad one day when he turns on the computer hehe :)

Personally I'd go with paintshop for being quicker if you just need a backdrop

If you already have the screen capture, whact you can do is use the crop tool if needed (in the side menus, looks like ><>< that at a 45 degree angle). Then I would use image--> resize to boost it to desktop size (go by pizel count and keep the aspect), then you can use canvas size to put it to a 1024x768 image, or whatever, and then use the image --->filters, and personally i think that 'blur more gives you a good enough effect that you lose the pixelation, and it also blends the background into the..well, background! : )

Erm...I'll try that later then (I'm at school atm, grr :P). I know what the Crop tool is, so I'm partway there lol...just want the pic big enough to cover the screen really, rather than being a dinky little image in the middle (which is what it would be if I set it as wallpaper now). Well, thanks for the help Beo, I'll see what I can do with it :)

Muahahahhaaa...wow I kind of managed to figure it out accidentally...I have the pic as wallpaper now (although it's a little stretched vertically :P)...did it by right-clicking on desktop screen and selecting "Properties" (original intention was just to see the size I wanted the image to become so it would fit right), then "Browse", found it, and put it up by "Stretch"...so now I have the DM entrance on the screen :)

lol, good job - i still say the blur tool softens it up and pushes it into the background nicely though : )
