You don't have to fight them. You can lure most of them in a small room and close the door. Only one of them needs to be defeated because it has a key you need. An easy way to kill it is to let it fall in the hidden pits ...

Regenerating mana uses up stamina. Some characters have high wisdom and lots of mana, but little stamina (like Tiggy). The mana they used returns quickly, so their stamina is used up fast as well. Sleeping just speeds this up.

Obviously I didnt know about spell difficulty and in what sense what spells are best for optimal level gains, but a must was EE potions. Just common sense really, you practice priest levels and redump some of your spent mana either back on to the same char or another char learning the trade
