My most memorable moment: I had just figured out how to cast Ful Ir. I was cruising around the 4th level, and I saw a couple worms down the hall. I immediately unleashed the strongest Ful Ir I could manage, then proceeded to charge down the hall full tilt on the tail of the raging ball of fire, scre...

The Legacy - Realm of Terror
Anyone heard of this? It's a pretty obscure game that came out around 1993, published by Microprose. It was actually the last game developed by the legendary company Magnetic Scrolls, who were mainly known for their graphical interactive fiction games with very sophisticated parsers. This game is ve...

Some time around December/January, there was some talk around here about creating a verstion of DM2 with the Amiga graphics for use with RTC. I remember George Gilbert stating that he wasn't planning on doing this, but there were a few other people interested in generating the alternate version. Has...

(*snip*)...in some versions you can take a step toward the door and then quickly backstep, so the door will be open and Lord Librasulus will be visible with some nightsky horizon in the background, but unless you approach him again you can go back into the dungeon in order to attain the powergem an...

I was a huge Bard's Tale fan back in the day, and I've been eyeing Devil's Whiskey for a while. Haven't gotten around to buying it yet, though. It's supposed to be a tribute to the Bard's Tale series. I would love to play another Bard's Tale game, one that uses the same character classes, bard songs...

Wow... Okay, you're going to have to answer me this, then: Why on earth would you have willingly chosen to use a PC over an Amiga when you had access to both? In this gaming era that we're talking about, virtually everything worth playing was coming out for both systems. Many of them only had third-...

Ultima Underworld is definitely a classic. I too am not a fan of the fully 3D dungeons, so it's a testament to the quality of the game that I loved it so much. The dungeon was richly designed and atmospheric, with just the right mix of monsters, puzzles, interaction with non-hostile characters, plot...

Never tried editing EoB portraits. Hex editing is mostly useless due to the fact that you can customize your characters' HP and statistics. It can be done, though, and you can hex edit your characters' experience, levels, and inventory if you're really shameless about cheating. (which I am :) ). One...

As far as I know, the password thing is bogus. I played the game several times through and always completed all the special quests, and don't ever remember getting a password for my efforts. The quests themselves weren't that hard, once you knew about them, and I was able to figure most of them out ...

Works now! Nice stuff. I'm looking forward to the sprites for the other things. Incidentally, I have a complete collection of monster sprites from Eye of the Beholder III and Dungeon Hack if anyone is interested. Unfortunately, I generated them when I wasn't very savvy about these sorts of things, s...

I happened to like both series. The main strength of the EoB series is in its presentation -- I'm normally not a sucker for pretty eye candy, but EoB looked good compared to DM. The games were very fluid, and on a technical level, I found them quite impressive. Beyond the graphical aspect, the desig...

I remember that item from years ago when I first played DM on my Apple 2GS, and it's always bothered me. I've used the RTC conversion of the kid dungeon, but unfortunately we're not supplied with the text file that can be opened in the RTC editor, so we can't see what that item is. Can the CSBWin ve...

Abandoned Places
I found out about this game and its sequel while I was poking around some Amiga sites looking for Black Crypt (since a lot of people around here seem to like it). I haven't tried Abandoned Places 1 and 2 yet, but they seem to be very similar to DM. Are they any good? Apparently there was a PC port o...

It really isn't a good game. It's fun at first, and then gets rapidly boring. It interesting to see all the different monters (there really are a lot of them), but once I was able to extract all the sprites, that wasn't a reason to play the game anymore. The other irritating thing is that they forgo...
