Re: Understanding weapon damage

After all that reading - and not fully understanding - I think I'm coming to some conclusions.

I want a very high str character, with str potions and I'm thinking of a certain lizard! He should have the hardcleave.

And for my other front row it's unclear if I should consider the mace of order ...

Re: Hidden Skills

Oh it's absolutely sensible to have all characters advance in all 4 major skills.

However within each major skill they should NOT be a jack of all trades.

Previously, and I've played on and off for 35 years, I do some basic training on level 1 and then do a few hours in the screamer room and a lot ...

Re: strange bug in the st version

This can be caused by a failed copy protection check although I don't think that's what OP was describing.

Re: Hidden Skills

Yes, this is new to me after over 35 years.

I've determined that it's best for fighters to select a weapon hidden skill and only use that - which makes sense, it means they will be specialised in that kind of attack.

And for priests I need to decide if shield spells or potions are most important ...

Re: Understanding weapon damage

Oof! Well that's a lot of data.

What I tried to do, and failed to do, was see if the damage stat (hardcleave being 70, axe being 49 for example) came into it and I think he mentions it once as weapon_damage and then again as weapon_base_damage and I can see an example using the falchion base damage ...

Understanding weapon damage

When I've been looking at actions vs damage vs fatigue I've noticed that there are 3 different damage figures given.

1 - On actions and combos which seems to be the same as 2
2- In actions(damage) on the items page
3 - Under damage on the items page

So 1 and 2 seem to be the same and relate to ...

Re: Hidden Skills

Thanks for the replies.

This confirms something to me -

If I'm going to train my companions then I need to consider not just which actions raise my level fastest - in order to improve stats and hps and mana etc, but I also need to consider what actions they will eventually be doing because I could ...

Hidden Skills

I've been reading up on these hidden skils and I want to check my understanding.

If I do something that affects wizard/fire then I go up in both the hidden fire skill but also in basic wizard skill which will gain me levels. Later on when I try to do something like a fireball it will go for half of ...

Re: Is it possible to use the updated CSB portraits in CSBWin?

It seems from this that it can be done, however I'm not sure what I would need to import.

I fancy doing another run and doing it from DM all the way through to CSB with the same characters so it would be nice to have the updated portraits for them.

Quick on champions

Is importing original DM characters after a playthrough better than reincarnating the new champions in CSB once everybody is on the same levels etc?

I have it in my head that CSB champions are stronger.

Re: [CSBwin] Conflux III: the Undercity

I got confused with the save games, until I realised how it worked. Then i realised they were very clever indeed! You can do all sorts of things with 4 savegames if they are timestamped that way.

I did notice in the version of Conflux I'm using just now, the beta5 of 3.5 that only A shows. Pleased ...

Re: [CSBwin] Conflux III: the Undercity

He has said elsewhere that he's going to be changing the way the sewers worked. I do agree about the sewer noise now you mention it... it's particularly loud, the ambient noises are a worthwhile addition but in order to have the volume loud enough to hear vital pressure pad/wall clicks the ambient ...

I get that too, I don't think it means anything for you or I. At a guess it could be because of all the stuff Zyx has going on in the background, but I really don't know. Feel free to pester me if you get stuck with something. :) Edit : But don't let that give you the impression I'm anything special ...

Zyx - I can't think of a reason why you would object to me putting it there, but if you do let me know and I'll remove it ASAP.

Re: Conflux III discussion thread - potential spoilers

Zyx, I've noticed that the treasure hunting spell is not working again, that's a brand new game using the 3.5 bugfix 5 since it last happened. I had an idea that perhaps the unlocked spell that I'd seen appearing was maybe related, but I've checked the before and after savegame and it's not working ...

Okay now this is weird. During my normal playtime, when I was fetching the holy armour from the council level , suddenly I got "SPELL UNLOCKED" effect and message. I didn't pick up any scroll or done nothing significant other than resting... odd.

Indeed. The same thing happened to me too a few ...

versions and are known to be slow. They are
for Zyx in his development effort and provide
additional feedback for scripting errors and such.

The master thief: he should give you access to an otherwise inaccessible area, and if you find him again, you can recover your goods.

Not tried to pick the lock. Killed the thief, he drops a few scrolls, storm ring and ...

There's even more in the new release that I hadn't seen before, I can't tell if it was in the last release or not, so I don't now if you've seen it.

I wouldn't want to suggest the game is balanced on my experiences. I do have a single character (Zed) too, and the leeches are more difficult than it was with a full party, and indeed I think I got lucky to get down to the mines. I could not say if it's too hard or not though.

The leeches don't ...

Yes, there are. However as I said there's little to no point in attempting to get rid of the disease on that level, as you will immediately be reinfected.

They'll kill you if you're on the borderline of being able to do something or not, if you're relying on melee.

Edit : And if I thought the ...
