Westian might have hoped to use the distraction to pierce the body of the last leech. However, it started thrashing wildly, perhaps recognising that the other leech - some form of leader? - had just died. Westian did not need to make any effort to pull attention onto him. The leech frenzied the moment Westian moved in to strike. The muscled black tube threw itself at Westian's chest, bashing itself senseless and twisting around.
It was not long before two jagged teeth found the gap between his chest plate and helm. The thing did not even attempt to properly lock on, it seemed happy enough to simple contract its mouth to push two teeth into Westian, and convulse to suck blood around his armour.
Ouch, the leech rolled good. And sadly, as you said the attack roll was too low
I kinda hate to add insult to injury...no, wait, the other way around - but this will hurt. 5 hit points, and 3 constitution points, and the leech has locked on also will keep sucking on you unless you and Ameena can kill it next round. Good news, the leech has now lots its dex bonus to AC. Even that 12 might hit it now...
For Ameena, the pressure was now on. The odd soldier had not come back into view from falling into the water, but now a second leech had Westian fully in its powerful and terrifying grasp. It was all quite distracting, but something was niggling at her attention. And also, Ameena could hear an odd, low hooting coming from the direction of the cascade on this level.
Ameena, roll me a perception check, please. OB, you can decide if Westian would be attentive with a leech attached to him, though you'd be rolling perception really just to perceive the hooting and its direction right now.
Meanwhile, Haynuus was trying to be careful, however there were dangers all around. At least the wasp was hesitating. And hearing a hooting coming from close to it, the wasp dithered and moved off further out to the water again.
The hooting sound then created lots of squeaking from the screamers attached to the walls. They were, irritatingly, aware of his prescence. And the purple tendrils started flicking, as if eager for fresh meat.
There seemed to be a few options, none particularly great. Haynuus could rush along the ledge, as far away from the tendrils as possible. Of ocurse, as dizzy as he felt, even the drier edges of the ledge could see him slip, or could crumble underfoot. Or, Haynuus could just charge across the ledge in the middle - and hope the tendrils were too slow, and no screamers tried to move towards him. The last option, perhaps, could be to simply move and strike, creating a trail of pain for the screamers and tendril so they would stay where they were. That last might create a stir that could slow down the hidden thing behind him.
The only thing that was certain was that Haynuus was in danger, not at his freshest, and had a fully armoured comrade to rescue!
I'll get right on with drawing the new map bit. Of course, Haynuus can do whatever he likes - including chucking his breastplate and trusting to his strength to see him ok in the water - but I think i gave you a decent idea of the pitfalls of the biggest three ideas. I hope Haynuus isn't destined to be mulch in his screamer farm, instead of the harvester!
Ok guys, a new week, but you guys are still in the thick of it. More hurt, more opportunities to inflict hurt back. And, of course, by the end of the week I'm hoping that the end of the encounter might be in sight. I'm not saying that's a good thing :p Still, nice to see everyone getting to use their cool abilities, and potentially get tripped up by the things they don't have. Also nice to see that Falkor's absence does create a hole - imagine a few of the controlling or damaging spells you could use right about now to shape the encounter to your advantage!
