Replicating items in DM (PC)

Post by DiscJet »

It is possible to replicate items in PC version of Dungeon Master.
Note: It is easy to crash the game with the replicator.

On level 2 in the "secret" cave where compass can be found there is an appearing and disappearing teleport (09,38). Use the firestaff to cast a fluxcage to that block. The fluxcage is then teleported to (15,38). After waiting a while, the block with fluxcage starts to look like there was some spell hanging in the air also. At that point the replicator is ready, and it can be used by putting items on ground and picking them up. They will exist on ground even when you pick them.

The zip file contains 3 savegames:
before.dat: Nothing special done
ready.dat: Replicator created
after.dat: Items replicated

Have fun =)

what is so special about this teleport that makes it a replicator? the fact, that it vanishes and appears again?

The fluxcage is moved by the teleport only when the teleport appears, so I guess a "static" teleport isn't sufficient. Perhaps some other teleport elsewhere will do just as fine, but that one is a commonly known one and at a nice and peaceful place. :) I'm sure I've tested other similar teleports as well, but I don't remember if they worked or not, and I'm too lazy to find one now.

It's a bug in the game, I beleive a variant of doing it starts with a flamebane in fluxcagy spell-mess

And yes, item replication is dangerous - if you have both items dropping into the dungeon, the engine hangs. You can naturally get this in long DM games anyway, something to do with the item generation routines

Easier to just use DMBuild and sneak one in legally : )

Certainly. I just wanted to point out that replicating items is possible in PC DM. The only thread i found about the subject claimed it is not possible.

It's also possible by dropping fluxcages down the moving pits in the treasure stores, then going downstairs and putting items in the dropped fluxcage -- instant replciation. Only in some versions though -- this was fixed in later versions.

It's fuinny how fluxcages and poison clouds and the like are short-lived objects, but objects nonetheless...teleporting clouds and dropping fluxcages always seems weird : )

Funny you should say that after seeing how dungeons can be twisted only in the last few weeks... ;o)
