Editing dungeons for Captive + More

Post by DragonsLover »

Hi all! :)

I have a question about editing walls in the editor of RTC.

First, you know the game Captive? It's a futuristic dungeon-like game that I like (don't worry, I also like Dungeon Master too! ;) )! So I wanted to edit my own Captive dungeons and use RTC to do so. But, the size of graphics of walls, floor and ceiling are different than the ones in Dungeon Master. So here is my question:

Can I change the size to use for the walls, floor and ceiling in the editor? I mean, instead of putting a ceiling of 448 x 62 pixels (where it is the normal size for the ceiling), can I put a ceiling with this size: 448 x 137 pixels in the editor? Because the ceiling of Captive is bigger than Dungeon Master.

===============================================

Also, a message for George Gilbert. I really enjoy your game RTC with its editor and the editor you made for the original DM: DMute. But the editor for DMute could not be easy like the RTC one? Of course, Dungeon Master doesn't work using a text file. But, can you make an easier editor instead of hex editing things? Can you make an easy-to-use menu for each hex parts of the objects or elements? One for Activation Type. One for Additional quantifier. One for effect generated and so on... You know what I mean? Like... it is a little bit complicated to put a torch holder with hex code, but in RTC it is easier.

In other words: Can you make a similar editor for DMute using the editor of RTC? But, with the difference that in DMute, we couldn't create new objects!

Thanks!

it's possible to use different size graphics for most things so I would say off hand yes it should be possible however you need to provide the offset and size for the images. which could take some time fidling with it.

I think the answer to your 'can you do anything with Dmute' answer will be 'no'
RTC was George's answer to the limits of DMute, and to address his own interest in creating a game engine.
I imagine that doing anything with an editor only useful for PC DM dunogens, especially i nthe climate of CSBwin, which most people seem to design for now, and has it's own editor, would be ulikely.
Note that there is also DMBuild, a different editor for PC DM. This doesn't use hex code, it uses a cycling text menu that implements the hex for you. Also, it can create new objects. The trouble is that anythign altered too much with DMBuild will not be editable again with DMute.

Okay. I understand.

Anyway, DMute is a good editor too!

Thanks for the answers!
