Fake Walls

Post by Chaos Awakes »

Interesting one this.
How do I create a clone of a fake wall for which I can allocate my own graphics?
When I create a clone of a fake wall, and then edit it in the editor, it shows up as having no graphics associated with it - I would've expected it to have the levels wall graphics associated with it. If I allocate graphics to it, it doesn't work, it still shows up in game with standard wall graphics.

So how do I create a flooritem that is fake and can be walked through other than a fake wall?

What about cloning something like a blue haze or something and changing the graphics for that? I dunno why cloning a normal fake wall and giving the clone a different graphic wouldn't work though...

Brilliant! Thanks for that, a Blue Haze would be the obvious candidate.

Just tried it by cloning a blue haze, and it doesn't work. The same thing applies - the Blue Haze and Fake Walls (and other Hazes as well) seem to have built in graphics which you can't change.

I've achieved what I wanted by cloning a fake pit, which did allow me to change the graphics.

You generally can't clone active flooritems, but very clever that you thought to clone a fake pit. However, I'm not sure that gives you all the correct faces for graphics at all distances -- does it?

More importantly, a blocking wall wouldn't block

And I thought cloning a blue haze should be doable, so you can create alternate teleporter or area graphics (like fog or rain effects)

All floor items have graphics slots for all distances with the exceptions of a very few (like the fake wall and hazes) which have their own special graphics processing.

You'd get exactly the same effect cloning a fake pit as you would cloning a puddle, grate, pressure pad etc.

Actually, thinking about it, that's not quite true. Some floor items will have entires in the magic map. If you clone the fake pit, then your false wall will show up on the map as a pit!

Of course, if you don't have the magic map in your dungeon, then this isn't a problem.

He he. I'm not too bothered about that. If anything, somebody looking at the magic map will say "Hey, I don't remember a pit being there" and work out that something is up. Perhaps it's some cunning stunt (no spoonerisms please) that Chaos has thought up lol
