Restricting Saving

Post by PadTheMad »

Following on from a discussion with linflas and Trantor in flashchat I realised the restricting saving feature hadn't been implemented quite how I'd originally hoped.

As well as having a Saves/No Saves dungeon, would it be possible to have the tile enable and disabe saving whilst in the dungeon? For example, saving is allowed throughout the whole dungeon, but before entering a particular section, say a boss battle, saving is disabled and then re-enabled when the boss is killed.

If you look at previous discussions you will see this has come up, and I think George was going to implement the idea

The only discussion I've found is the original I brought up over a year ago, and hasn't been touched on since. Maybe I've not looked hard enough but I'm slowly making my way through the archive to see if any of the issues I have have already been addressed or solved.

I left RTC editing for a bit whilst I got my uni stuff sorted and as a result never really paid much attention to what had been done to implement the feature. Now I've really started knuckling down and hope to get a dungeon out, it's a feature I, and others, could really make use of but sadly isn't there :(

Maybe it was in the news section, there was a discussion about general restricted saving then, and perhaps George waded in with what he'd done on RTC.

The original thread is in the RTC archive:

In another thread, I distinctly recall George saying that it should be possible to enable/disable this pad by targetting with another trigger. Haven't found that thread yet!

That should already work in V0.34 - doesn't it?

As has already been done for the "only save here pad", I could easily add a "cannot save here pad". You could then litter these pads over the floor of your boss rooms to give you the effect you need without having to change the structure of the save game file or add yet more options to the basic dungeon parameters. Would that work for you?

Added a "No save" floor item for V0.35. When the party is standing on the same tile as this item (and the item is active) then the game cannot be saved. This applies to all games regardless of the restrict saves setting.
