Ooooo -- don't tease us! I'm really looking forward to playing this, and judging from your challenges, it sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it!

Can't wait! :D :) :o  :P

Yeah, go on Beowuuf... I'm sort of falling into an x-mas depression hole after Conflux II and need a new dungeon for my addiction *twitch*

lol, i meant the granting of mod powers to zyx ages ago, not a new dungeon

i do have one around that i occasionally attack atm, but its a small one, and i doubt it will ever come to light (anyone who knows my dm stuff knows i keep havign ideas and never carrying on...i still have a whole reporter pad full of ideas for an RTC monster of a game that will probably never be realised!)

edit: hope no one minds, but i thought making the conflux related topics sticky for the start of the release to keep them all together might be an idea

Do you just copy the CSBwin.exe to the conflux folder as ever time i try enter the dungeon CSBwin.exe crashes I get to the new doors and click Enter and it crashes :( any ideas?

You do not say what version of CSBwin you are using.
Get the latest......9.6v2. Zyx used a lot of advanced features.

by PicturesInTheDark
Maybe we should offer a complete release of both dungeon and CSBwin.exe at the download area - that way always the latest one could be included at only little space expansion.

I just wrote a 'play conflux II' .txt file so anyone can play it from a standing start (no CSB4win), but the bundle might be an easier idea?

Edit: <snip>

Posted: Tue Dec 23, 2003 3:18 pm
by PicturesInTheDark
Very well written - but maybe the bundle WOULD be easier (Conflux II, CSBwin 9.6v2.exe and that's it - all in one *.rar... only about 245K bigger ;o)
Question for the log files - can you add several logfiles to one playfile? Otherwise who can do that? This is not a Conflux-related, but general question - curious because I never tried that before.

Thank you for your efforts, Beowuuf. Now that you explained it all, I see it is very complex to play Conflux II! :-)
The bundle is a good idea, if Paul agrees. We can even prepare a self-extracting .exe. But where will we upload it?
Christophe, do have enough webspace to propose two types of downloads?

Posted: Tue Dec 23, 2003 8:14 pm
by Paul Stevens
If Christophe can handle it that is OK. I could put it
onj my website otherwise. I know how it all works and
the explanation confused me. I have always liked the
bundle myself.

PitD: If you save all the recordings they can be spliced
together with a program that I described some time ago.
You cannot simply append one to another.

by beowuuf
LOL - if i confuse the man who made it, then that's it...bundling, no question!
I think maybe altering the .rar file structure so all the files will be placed in the right folders might be an idea - including a play.bat...

free unpacking software www.ultimatezip.com

it will do RAR and ARJ and ACE and ZIP etc etc. and it's free.

I have replaced the archive on the encyclopaedia forum by the the new bundle including CSBwin.

I will soon have to remove something from dmweb.free.fr, as it is now 99% full (about only 1 MB of free space). If we still want to be able to upload new dungeons...

Paul: Can you tell me which thread or key words I have to look for (splicing logs together?).

Does anybody have a solution for Christophe (webspace)? Unfortunately I cannot offer anything myself, but I'm willing to offer some money if that's what it takes to expand the space.

Regards, PitD

My offer of money still is open.

I posted SpliceCSB. I have not used it for many months
and don't remember how it works. Run it without any
parameters and it will probably provide a hint. I think
you give it the name of the last logfile and it looks at all
the logfiles and attempts to find the one that preceeds it
and so on. If it finds them it splices them together to
make one big file.

Let me know what problems you have and I will help.

Thank you, Paul. I will try in the evening and let you know. I was not aware that you wrote about that - was that in the original Encyclopedia threads?

I tried yesterday night - did not work properly. One reason will probably be that I saved a lot and continued on different paths from one or two "main" save games, so the logs will be mixed up a lot.

The second was that there seems to be a serious problem when I use different versions of the game engine during playing - I started Conflux II with 9.6t or 9.6u and always took the latest engine that was posted. My playfile.log therefore reminds me on every single move that there are errors and asks me if we shall terminate... so I gave in after a minute and said "yes". Any way to correct that?

I cannot emphasize this enough!!!!!!!!!!!!
When replaying a game, the conditions must be
exactly ( exactly....exactly....exactly....exactly)

EXACTLY

the same as when it was originally played. That is
one reason I put the runtime version number in the
file......so that you could see that conditions were not
EXACTLY the same. Playing the game twice, using
two different version of the runtime, you cannot expect
things to work EXACTLY the same. Otherwise, why would
we have two versions of the runtime???????

So I don't want to get involved in trying to debug this.
It may be that it should have worked but determining why
it did not work is a LOT OF WORK. And the answer is likely
to be that "It was not supposed to work".

I think I will also checksum the graphics file to be sure that
you are using the same graphics file when you replay.
I got caught debugging a replay that used the wrong
graphics file. What a waste of effort. And DM rules, too.

I tried downloading Conflux 2 but when i tried to extract it, it said some files were corrupted and some files did not appear like the graphics.dat so CSBWin wouldnt run. I REALLY want to play this dungeon so any alternative downloads of it would be really useful.

hmm, odd...
I just downloaded it myself and it downloaded/extracted fine, so maybe just bad luck on the download, and you should try again?

here's an alternate download at

edit: http://www.dmjump.net/ConfluxII0.j.rar

new release for 27/3/04 0.j /edit

hope one of them works! : )

Paul: I read for the first time so far (consciously, maybe I've seen it before somewhere else but I don't remember) in this very thread about SpliceCSB and there's no mention of using exactly the same engine that I could find here - so no need to get aggrevated. I did not ask you to spend valuable time and efforts in putting those log files together, it was simply a question if anything can be done about it, if not I'll just skip the logs and try again some other time. That was all, just curious to try it out.

Antman: Could you please let us know if the download worked or if you still have problems getting Conflux II? If they persist very likely others have problems too... and should get solved.

I have received via email a dungeon that gets a
system error "No Timer Entries Available".

It has thousands of monsters queued in the generators
at 07(25,30), 13(0,23), and 03(25,24).

Altogether there are 5000 timers queued, enough to make
my poor old 166MHz Pentium run at a slow crawl.

I can make the queue larger (up to 65000) but that seems
a bit senseless. I could make it infinity and it would
still fill up.
